TO FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WHO ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRED.

PRENATAL TO THREE PROGRAM OPTIONS: (1) INFANT PROGRAM (0-35 MONTHS AND PREGNANT MOTHERS) UTILIZING THE PARENT AS TEACHER CURRICULUM, PARENTS ATTEND THIS PROGRAM WITH THEIR CHILDREN TWO DAYS EACH WEEK IN A SMALL GROUP SETTING. PARENTS ARE GUIDED BY PARENT EDUCATORS AND CAN LEARN FROM AND SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON FOSTERING PARENT/CHILD RELATIONSHIPS, ADDRESSING EARLY DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS AND OTHER DISABILITIES, AND BRINGING PARENTS OUT OF ISOLATION. (2) CENTER-BASED TODDLER PROGRAM (18 35 MONTHS) CHILDREN ARE PLACED IN INCLUSIVE EARLY EDUCATION CLASSROOMS WITH CHILDREN WHO ARE TYPICALLY DEVELOPING (SIGHTED) AND IMMERSED IN DAILY LITERACY, MOBILITY, AND MOTOR SKILLS TRAINING TO CONTINUE THEIR HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT. PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR EXCEPT IN JULY.


INCLUSIVE LEARNING PRESCHOOL: MOST STUDENTS IN OUR TODDLER PROGRAM MOVE ON TO OUR PRESCHOOL WHICH PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE EARLY EDUCATION IN AN INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT, WITH TYPICALLY DEVELOPING CHILDREN IN EACH CLASSROOM. OUR SMALL CLASS SIZES ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION AND, FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED, TRAINING IN OPTIMIZING THE USE OF THEIR REMAINING VISION, SENSORY DEVELOPMENT, ORIENTATION & MOBILITY (INCLUDING CANE TRAVEL), SPEECH/LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT, EARLY MATH, AND LITERACY PREPAREDNESS FOR ALL CHILDREN FROM 3 5 YEARS-OLD. BOTH OUR TODDLER AND PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS UTILIZE THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM. THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED YEAR-ROUND EXCEPT IN JULY.
