THE MUSEUM CREATES AND DISPLAYS A SERIES OF EXHIBITIONS ANNUALLY THAT COVER A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS FROM LOCAL HISTORY ART AND COLLECTIBLES. THESE EXHIBITS INTEGRATE LOCAL STATE AND NATIONAL HISTORY ALONG WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES OF ART AND NATURAL HISTORY IN ORDER TO GIVE OUR GUESTS A MORE WELL-ROUNDED APPROACH TO THE WORK IN WHICH THEY LIVE. THIS PAST YEAR EXHIBITS INCLUDED: IMAGINATION EXPRESSED 2021 WITH THE PLEASANTON ART LEAGUE A TRAVELING EXHIBIT-THE NEWEST AMERICANS ABOUT NEW IMMIGRANTS WHAT IN THE WORD 2021 STITCHING CA- A TRAVELING TEXTILE ART EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTING CA LIFE THE PLEASANTON ONES-A PHOTOJOURNALIST EXHIBIT OF LOCAL LIFE PHOBIAS: WHAT ARE YOU ARFRAID OF AND FINALLY BRICKWORKS: THE ART OF LEGOS WHERE LEGO BUILDERS MADE LOCAL LANDMARKS WITH LEGOS.
THE MUSEUM'S EDUCATION AND FAMILY PROGRAMS MAKE UP A SIGNIFICANT PART OF OUR EDUCATIONAL MISSION. WE SEE EVERY THIRD GRADE STUDENT IN THE PLEASANTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WHO USUALLY COME TO THE MUSEUM FOR AN INDUCTIVE QUESTIONED FOCUSED DOCENT LED EXPLORATION OF PRIMARY SOURCES AND ARTIFACTS FOLLOWED BY A WALKING TOUR. WE ALSO OFFER A MONTHLY PRESCHOOL READING AND CRAFT PROGRAM THAT ATTRACTS 20-25 CHILDREN AND CAREGIVERS EACH MONTH. WE DO AN INTERGENERATIONAL FAMILY DAY 4 TIMES A YEAR DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. THESE REVOLVE AROUND THEMES OF COMMUNITY HISTORY AND LIFE THE ALAMEDA COUNTY FAIR AND OTHER APPROPRIATE TOPICS THAT MIGHT HIGHLIGHT A CURRENT EXHIBIT. ONE FAMILY DAY A YEAR HIGHLIGHTS AN ETHNIC GROUP FROM THE COMMUNITY TO ENHANCE THE COMMUNITY'S UNDERSTANDING OF OUR DIVERSE CULTURAL MAKE UP. WE HOST ALL TYPES OF SCOUT GROUPS WHO ATTEND PROGRAMS THAT HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR MERIT BADGES AND WHO RECEIVE A MUSEUM ON MAIN BADGE TOO. WE HAVE RECEIVED GRANTS FROM LOCAL ROTARY GROUPS TO UNDERWRITE THE COSTS OF THE MOM'S READING TIME AND OUR FAMILY DAYS-BOTH OF WHICH ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC TO ENSURE THE GREATEST ACCESSIBILITY. WITH THE PANDEMIC ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS HAD TO MOVE TO A VIRTUAL PALTFORM BUT THIS PAST YEAR WE STARTED TO SEE A SMALL RETURN TO NORMAL.
THE MUSEUM HOLDS A SERIES OF MONTHLY PRESENTATIONS FROM JANUARY THROUGH OCTOBER WHERE PRESENTERS PORTRAY HISTORICAL CHARACTERS. THE PRESENTER DOES A 45 MINUTE MONOLOGUE AND THEN ANSWERS QUESTIONS AS THE HISTORICAL CHARACTER FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES BEFORE STEPPING OUT OF CHARACTER TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AS T HE SCHOLAR THAT THE HISTORICAL CHARACTER COULD NOT ANSWER. THIS PAST YEAR WE MOVED TO A VIRTUAL PLATFORM BECAUSE OF THE LINGERING PANDEMIC AND ITS EFFECTS. OUR CHARACTERS THIS PAST YEAR WERE: LADY BIRD JOHNSON GENE RODDENBERRY CHE GUEVARA THOMAS EDISON MARIE CURIE JACQUES COUSTEAU WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE AND AUDIE MURPHY. WHILE THE VIRTUAL PLATFORM SERVED US WELL WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING TO IN PERSON PERFORMANCES IN 2022. WE WILL HOWEVER KEEP A VIRTUAL COMPONENT FROM NOW ON BECAUSE IT HAS SUCCESSFULLY ATTRACTED NEW AUDIENCES FROM OUTSIDE THE COMMUNITY.
