Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED AND MAINTAINS A HORSE SANCTUARY THAT SERVES TO PROTECT THE LIVES OF ONE OF AMERICA'S NATURAL TREASURES. THE SANCTUARY PROVIDES A REFUGE FOR WILD MUSTANG HORSES THAT OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN HELD IN SHORT TERM HOLDING FACILITIES BY THE BLM OR MAY HAVE BEEN SOLD TO SLAUGHTER HOUSES. THE SANCTUARY PROVIDES FEEDING AND CARE FOR HUNDREDS OF MUSTANG HORSES AND PERMITS THEM TO ROAM FREELY ON THE SANCTUARY PROPERTY. THE CARE OF THE HORSES INCLUDE COSTS FOR WATERING THE HORSES, CARE OF PUMP, PIPES, ETC., AND LABOR TO MOVE THE HORSES WHEN NECESSARY DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS. SOME OF THE MUSTANGS HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO PERMIT HUMAN INTERACTION. SUCH INTERACTION ALLOWS CAREGIVERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL TO GET CLOSE TO THE HORSES AND SERVES AS A MEMORABLE AND LASTING FORM OF PUBLIC OUTREACH.
THE ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED MUSTANG MONUMENT, WHICH IS A WILD HORSE PRESERVE AND EDUCATION CENTER. MUSTANG MONUMENT IS SURROUNDED BY MAJESTIC MOUNTAIN RANGES. THE PRESERVE AND EDUCATION CENTER ENCOMPASSES OVER 900 SQUARE MILES JUST SOUTH OF WELLS, NEVADA. THE PRESERVE IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE SANCTUARY FOR UP TO A THOUSAND WILD HORSES.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES PUBLIC EDUCATION REGARDING THE HORSE SANCTUARY, THE HISTORY OF HORSES IN AMERICA, AND THE PROTECTION AND CARE OF WILD HORSES THROUGH PRINT LITERATURE, CHILDREN'S BOOKS, AND OTHER PUBLIC OUTREACH EFFORTS, INCLUDING ONLINE RESOURCES. IT USES ITS WEBSITE, VIDEOS, AND OTHER OUTREACH TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND EDUCATION CONCERNING THE PLIGHT OF WILD HORSES.
