Part 3 - Line 4a
HOUSING JUSTICE: THIS YEAR WE WORKED HARD TO RESEARCH, GATHER INPUT, AND RELEASE A REPORT OUTLINING NEEDED CHANGES TO THE CITYS HOMELESS HOUSING ACCESS SYSTEM, AND WORKED TO GET THOSE CHANGES ADOPTED. WE ALSO WORKED ON IDENTIFYING GAPS IN OUR SYSTEM AND TOP BUDGET PRIORITIES FOR CITY AND PROP C EXPENDITURES, AND CRAFTED PROPOSALS TO SOLVE HOMELESSNESS. THIS LAST YEAR, THROUGH OUR BUDGET CAMPAIGNS WERE WERE ABLE TO GARNER SUPPORT FOR ADDED SHELTER BEDS, HOUSING SUBSIDIES AND ACQUISITIONS, ADDITIONAL TREATMENT BEDS AND PREVENTION INVESTMENTS TO KEEP THOSE AT RISK OF OF HOMELESSNESS IN THEIR HOMES. WE ALSO WERE ABLE TO HELP SAVE A FAMILY SHELTER PROGRAM AND GET THE CITY TO BUY IT. WITH PROP C DOLLARS, OVER 1,000 UNITS HAVE BEEN ACQUIRED AND ANOTHER 3,000 RENTAL SUBSIDIES. THIS HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED HOUSING PLACEMENTS AND DECREASED HOMELESSNESS IN THE CITY.
OTHER PROGRAM COSTS
HUMAN RIGHTS: THIS PAST YEAR WE FOUGHT SUCCESSFULLY FOR THREE ADDITIONAL WATER STATIONS THAT UNHOUSED INDIVIDUALS CAN ACCESS. WE ALSO WORKED WITH THE LATINO TASK FORCE TO STUDY AND RELEASE A REPORT ON THE EXPERIENCES OF UNHOUSED INDIVIDUALS IN THE MISSION DISTRICT, DUE TO LARGE INCREASE OF LATINO INDIVIDUALS BECOMING HOMELESS DURING PANDEMIC. WE DEVELOPED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGE. WE ALSO WORKED ON MONITORING HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS OF UNHOUSED INDIVIDUALS AND CONTINUED TO FIGHT FOR CHANGES TO THE CITYS HOMELESS STREET RESPONSE TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE AND HUMANE.
STREET SHEET: WE PUBLISHED OUR NEWSPAPER TWICE PER MONTH, FILLED WITH STORIES, ARTWORK, AND POETRY MOSTLY WRITTEN BY UNHOUSED PEOPLE THEMSELVES, WHO ARE PAID FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS. THIS NEWSPAPER SUPPORTS A HUNDRED VENDORS WHO RELY ON SALES TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES AND ARE ABLE TO KEEP 100% OF THE PROCEEDS.
