THE HAWAII DATA COLLABORATIVE IS WORKING TO PROMOTE A CULTURE OF DATA-DRIVEN DECISION MAKING IN HAWAII BY MAKING DATA FOR SOLVING OUR PRESSING CHALLENGES MORE ACCESSIBLE, RELEVANT, AND MEANINGFUL. WE BELIEVE THAT DATA AND EVIDENCE ARE ESSENTIAL TO INFORMING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS HAPPENING, WHY IT IS HAPPENING, AND WHAT WE SHOULD DO ABOUT IT. WE ENGAGE IN COLLABORATIONS TO DIVE DEEP ON TOPICS OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE, BUILDING DATA AND EVIDENCE CAPACITY WHERE IT IS NEEDED THE MOST. WE SEEK TO ENSURE THAT, AS LEADERS AND DECISION MAKERS, WE KNOW MORE SO WE CAN DO BETTER - USING DATA TO IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES, GUIDE DECISIONS, AND ULTIMATELY HOLD OURSELVES AND OTHERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ACHIEVING BETTER OUTCOMES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
DOH COVID DATA CAPACITY SUPPORT: EARLY IN 2021, HDC PROVIDED THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH'S (DOH) DISEASE OUTBREAK CONTROL DIVISION (DOCD) WITH MUCH NEEDED DATA CAPACITY SUPPORT. THROUGH AN ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT, A FREELANCE FULL STACK DEVELOPER, AND HDC'S INTERNAL DATA VISUALIZATION LEAD, HDC WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE PROGRESS, ESPECIALLY WITH REGARDS TO VACCINATIONS DATA, IN WAYS THAT DOH DOCD COULD NOT RAPIDLY DEPLOY ON ITS OWN. PROVIDING THIS SUPPORT ENSURED THAT DOH DATA SYSTEMS WERE ONLINE AND OPTIMIZED FOR THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES OF TRACKING A RAPID AND UNPRECEDENTED VACCINATION ROLLOUT.
ALOHA UNITED WAY (AUW) 211 PARTNERSHIP: HDC'S WORK TO SUPPORT DATA ENHANCEMENTS TO THE AUW 211 SYSTEM IN 2020 CONTINUED THROUGH 2021. THE TEAM WAS ABLE TO LAUNCH THE FIRST PUBLIC-FACING DASHBOARD (HTTPS://WWW.HAWAIIDATA.ORG/211DATA), WHICH OFFERS WEEKLY DATA ON EXPRESSED NEED ACROSS THE STATE. FURTHER, HDC SUPPORTED ENHANCEMENTS TO THE WEBSITE INTERFACE AND INTERNAL RESOURCE DATABASE, WHICH WILL FURTHER STREAMLINE THE DATA CAPABILITIES OF AUW 211 FOR BROAD BENEFIT.
KO'OLAU EVICTION PREVENTION PROGRAM: HDC WAS AWARDED A $20,000 GRANT FROM THE HAROLD K.L. CASTLE FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT THE 2021 KO'OLAU EVICTION PREVENTION PROGRAM, WHICH SUPPORTED 448 WINDWARD OAHU HOUSEHOLDS TO REMAIN HOUSED BY APPLYING FOR AND RECEIVING SUPPORT FROM THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU'S FEDERAL HOUSING PROGRAMS. HDC PROVIDED MUCH NEEDED DATA CAPACITY SUPPORT TO THIS PROGRAM, ENSURING THAT PROGRAM STRATEGY WAS INFORMED BY THE BEST DATA AND ANALYSIS POSSIBLE.
