EDUCATION AND OUTREACH - THE ORGANIZATION HAS AN EXTENSIVE OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS, OFFERING INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS, ONGOING CLASSES, AND CONTEXTUAL IN-SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES FOCUSED ON BUILDING CREATIVE EXPRESSION, SELF-ESTEEM, CULTURAL PLURALISM, AND GROUP COOPERATION THROUGH PHYSICAL AND MUSICAL ACTIVITY. IN SUM, THESE PROGRAMS REACH OVER 25,000 PARTICIPANTS IN A TYPICAL YEAR. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RESULTING HEALTH ORDERS MEANT THAT THE MOST ONGOING CLASSES WERE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY THROUGHOUT THE BEGINNING OF THE AUDIT PERIOD AND TRANSITIONING TO IN-PERSON FOR SOME PROGRAMS IN APRIL 2021. ONE-TIME WORKSHOPS AND IN-SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES WERE NOT HELD AT ALL GREATLY REDUCING ANNUAL REACH.
PERFORMANCES - THE ORGANIZATION'S PERFORMING COMPANY CONDUCTS DYNAMIC PRESENTATIONS OF SJT'S UNIQUE STYLE OF CONTEMPORARY TAIKO, HIGHLIGHTING ITS VAST REPERTOIRE OF ORIGINAL MUSIC AND FEATURING INNOVATIVE COLLABORATIONS TO PROVIDE A BROAD REACH FOR 58,000 NATIONAL AUDIENCE MEMBERS AT OVER 130 VENUES IN A TYPICAL YEAR. PERFORMANCE LOCATIONS INCLUDE ART CENTERS, UNIVERSITIES, AND COMMUNITY VENUES ACROSS THE NATION. PERFORMANCE SETTINGS CAN INCLUDE CIVIC EVENTS, CULTURAL FESTIVALS, AND/OR IN-THEATRE CONCERTS. SOME TOUR PERFORMANCES INCLUDE A 2-7-DAY RESIDENCY. LOCAL, COUNTY, STATE, AND FEDERAL HEALTH ORDERS AND/OR GUIDELINES SEVERELY RESTRICTED/LIMITED PERFORMANCES WHICH WERE CATEGORIZED AS EVENTS OR GATHERINGS DURING THE AUDIT PERIOD.
TRAINING - THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES FOR TAIKO PRACTITIONERS, AND FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING THEIR TAIKO DRUMMING SKILLS LEADING TO THE PROLIFERATION AND ADVANCEMENT OF THE ART FORM. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS ONGOING TRAINING FOR ITS COMPANY MEMBERS TO CONSTANTLY BETTER THEIR TECHNICAL AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS. IN SUM, SJT TRAININGS ENGAGE OVER 300 INDIVIDUALS IN A TYPICAL YEAR. RESTRICTIONS OF ACTIVITY RESULTING FROM THE PANDEMIC LED TO A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE OF ANY IN-PERSON TRAININGS OR THE MIGRATION TO VIRTUAL PLATFORMS WHEN SUITED.
