IN FY 20/21, WE FOCUSED ON TWO LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS. WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING AMENDMENTS IN SENATE BILL 9 ATKINS THAT EXEMPTED DESIGNATED PROPERTIES FROM MINISTERIAL LOT SPLITS ALLOWED UNDER SB 9. WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN LOBBYING FOR FUNDING OF THE STATE HISTORIC TAX CREDIT AND GETTING AN EXTENTION TO THE SUNSET DATE. WE CONTINUED OUR FREE AND FEE-BASED ONLINE PROGRAMS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS ADVOCATE FOR BETTER PROTECTIONS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. WE RECEIVED DONATIONS TO LAUNCH A PROGRAM TO HIRE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PURSUING DEGREES IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION TO HELP UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES NOMINATE HISTORIC SITES AND STRUCTURES TO LOCAL, STATE OR NATIONAL REGISTERS.
RESEARCH - CPF COMPLETED THE PROCESS FOR SELECTING SITES FOR THE NEW PROGRAM THAT WILL OFFER GRANTS TO COMMUNITIES WHICH ARE UNDERREPRESENTED ON THE CALIFORNIA AND NATIONAL REGISTERS OF HISTORIC PLACES. WE CONSULTED WITH THE DEPARTMENT HEADS OF MAJOR UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO DEVELOP A PROCESS FOR SELECTING STUDENTS TO HIRE FOR THE RESEARCH PHASE OF THE PROGRAM. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO RAISE FUNDS FROM INDIVIDUALS TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM AND APPLIED FOR GRANTS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.
