OUR MISSION IS TO INSPIRE GIRLS TO BE STRONG, SMART AND BOLD THROUGH INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES AND ADVOCACY, AND TO PROVIDE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE SERVICES SUPPORTING YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH ALAMEDA ISLAND KIDS.

AMONG THE SERVICES THAT GIRLS INC. OF THE ISLAND CITY (GIIC) OFFERS IS A SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY CALLED ALAMEDA ISLAND KIDS. OVER 350 BOYS AND GIRLS PARTICIPATE IN OUR ON-SITE, BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL LICENSED CHILDCARE PROGRAM AT FIVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN ALAMEDA.GIIC IS PART OF A NATIONAL RESEARCH, DIRECT ADVOCACY, AND EDUCATION ORGANIZATION. OUR PROGRAMS HELP GIRLS OVERCOME ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND GENDER BARRIERS TO GROWING UP HEALTHY, EDUCATED AND INDEPENDENT BY PROVIDING LIFE-CHANGING PROGRAMS AND EXPERIENCES. GIRLS ARE EMPOWERED TO PURSUE CAREERS AND EXPERIENCES IN SPORTS, SCIENCE, MATH, TECHNOLOGY, AND THE MEDIA. MOREOVER, THEY LEARN HOW TO MAKE INFORMED CHOICES ABOUT THEIR ACTIVITIES AND FUTURES.
GIIC PROVIDES ON-SITE AND SCHOOL-SITE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR OVER 500 GIRLS 6-18 USING NATIONALLY RESEARCH BASED AND LOCALLY DEVELOPED CURRICULUM (ELEMENTARY, PRE-TEEN AND TEEN TRACKS). DURING THE SUMMER, GIRLS ENGAGE IN 8 WEEKS OF FULL DAY SUMMER CAMP. IN TOTAL, GIIC GIRLS GROW THROUGH 53,000 HOURS OF EDUCATIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. GIIC IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING RESOURCES TO OUR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. ADDITIONALLY, FAMILIES ARE PROVIDED WITH RESOURCES ON SOCIAL SERVICES, SCHOLARSHIPS, INTERNSHIPS, WORKSHOPS, AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.
