NAMI (NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS) BROWARD COUNTY, INC. IS A 501(C)3 NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, FORMED IN 1982 AND IS AFFILIATED WITH NAMI NATIONAL AND NAMI FLORIDA, TO PROVIDE SUPPORT, EDUCATION, ADVOCACY AND RESEARCH TO INDIVIDUALS WITH SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS.

NAMI BROWARD COUNTY SERVES AS AN ADVOCATE AT THE COUNTY, STATE, AND NATIONAL LEVELS FOR NON-DISCRIMINATORY ACCESS TO QUALITY HEALTHCARE, HOUSING, EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. OUR SERVICES ARE FOCUSED ON THE GOALS OF EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS, WORKING TO ELIMINATE THE STIGMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS, AND ADVOCATING FOR INCREASED FUNDING FOR RESEARCH INTO THE CAUSES AND TREATMENT OF MENTAL ILLNESS. NAMI HOPE GROUP OFFERS RECREATION AND GROUP ACTIVITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 30 WHO ARE LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. NAMI BROWARD COUNTY OFFERS 3 TRAININGS PER YEAR FOR GUARDIAN ADVOCATES AND COORDINATES THE ASSIGNMENT OF THESE ADVOCATES WITH OUR BAKER ACT RECEIVING HOSPITALS. WE HAVE ALSO ADDED 4 MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAININGS, AN EVIDENCE-BASED INTERNATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. TRAINED INDIVIDUALS SERVE AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IN THE MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY, ADDING TO THE CAPACITY OF CAREGIVERS AND SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS. FOR THE YEAR 2021, NAMI BROWARD COUNTY HAVE REACHED AND SERVED OVER 6,000 ADULTS AND CHILDREN. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED IN PREVIOUS YEARS.
