THROUGH THE EDUCATION, SUPPORT, ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS, NAMI OREGON IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS, AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES.

LOCAL PROGRAM AFFILIATE ACTIVITIES & SUPPORT. NAMI OREGON HAS 11 UNINCORPORATED LOCAL CHAPTERS THAT OPERATE AS PROGRAMS OF NAMI OREGON. EACH LOCAL CHAPTER IS OVERSEEN BY A LOCAL STEERING COMMITTEE THAT DIRECTS EDUCATION AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS IN THE SPECIFIC CHAPTER'S SERVICE AREA, IN ADDITION TO OTHER MISSION-RELATED ACTIVITIES. NAMI OREGON SUPPORTS THE WORK OF THOSE 11 LOCAL CHAPTERS BY PROVIDING ADMINISTRATIVE AND GOVERNANCE SUPPORT AND BY SUPPORTING EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES FOR EACH CHAPTER. THIS INCLUDES ASSIGNING DEDICATED STAFF POSITIONS TO INDIVIDUAL CHAPTERS WHERE SUCH STAFFING IS VIABLE AND SUSTAINABLE.


OUTREACH & ADVOCACY - NAMI OREGON IS THE LARGEST MEMBERSHIP-BASED MENTAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION IN THE STATE OF OREGON AND IS RECOGNIZED AS THE LEADING VOICE ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AMONG STATE LAWMAKERS AND AMONG LOCAL MENTAL HEALTH POLICYMAKERS ACROSS THE STATE. NAMI ADVOCATES CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR POLICY CHANGES AND HEALTH CARE TRANSFORMATION THAT RAISES THE BAR ON MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT AND SUPPORT SERVICES THAT PROMOTE RECOVERY AND TIMELY ACCESS TO SERVICES AND SUPPORTS, REDUCE BARRIERS TO EFFECTIVE TREATMENT,AND PRESERVE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. NAMI GRASSROOTS ADVOCATES AND VOLUNTEERS ARE ACTIVE WITH THEIR STATE LEGISLATORS, INFORMING THEM OF POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND ADVOCATING FOR IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.


EDUCATION AND SUPPORT - NAMI OREGON OFFERS AN ARRAY OF PEER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS, FAMILY MEMBERS, PROVIDERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT NO COST TO PARTICIPANTS SEEKING CRITICAL INFORMATION AND SUPPORT NOT FOUND ELSEWHERE IN THE MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION SYSTEM.
