PORTLAND SYMPHONIC CHOIR'S MISSION IS TO SING THE CHORAL MASTERWORKS WITH EXCELLENCE AND PASSION, AND TO ENGAGE, EDUCATE, AND INSPIRE ITS MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITY.

VIRTUAL WINTERSONG ON 12/13/2020 FEATURED 1,328 TOTAL ATTENDEES VIA FACEBOOK LIVESTREAM FOR THE EVENT AND 1,168 VIA YOUTUBE LIVESTREAM, WITH ADDITIONAL ATTENDEES FOR THE VIRTUAL WINTERSONG RELEASES OF "I WONDER AS I WANDERX AND "GAUDETE," NUMBERING 2,391 AND 6,491 FACEBOOK VIEWS RESPECTIVELY. OUR VIRTUAL WINTERSONG EVENT ALSO FEATURED VIDEO PERFORMANCES OF STUDENTS FROM THREE AREA HIGH SCHOOLS CONDUCTED BY PSC ALUMNI: JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL, LA CENTER MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOLS, AND GRANT HIGH SCHOOL, IN ADDITION TO OUR 80 CHOIR MEMBERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN FILMING THE VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES.


_LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING_ VIRTUALLY PREMIERED AUGUST 28, 2020, TO AN AUDIENCE OF OVER 2,553 VIEWERS ON YOUTUBE. IN JUNE OF 2020, PSC COMMISSIONED LOCAL VOCALIST AND ARRANGER DORCAS BROWN SMITH TO WRITE A NEW ARRANGEMENT OF JAMES WELDON JOHNSON'S "LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING." DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY, OUR CHOIR MET TO LEARN AND REHEARSE THIS INCREDIBLE NEW ARRANGEMENT, LED BY MS. BROWN SMITH. NET PROCEEDS FROM THE PROJECT WENT TO DON'T SHOOT PORTLAND, A BLACK-LED CIVIL RIGHTS AGENCY FOR SOCIAL CHANGE. THIS PROJECT FEATURED MS. BROWN SMITH, SOLOIST, DAREION MALONE, RHYTHM SECTION, AND NICK HANKINS, AV PRODUCTION.


638 ATTENDEES VIEWED OUR VIRTUAL SPRING MASTERWORKS SERIES VIA YOUTUBE AND ZOOM. THIS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY BROUGHT TOGETHER FOUR GUEST CLINICIANS FROM JANUARY THROUGH APRIL 2021 TO CONDUCT 4 MAJOR WORKS VIRTUALLY IN THE CHORAL REPERTOIRE, AND TO LEAD OUR CHORAL COMMUNITY IN SING-ALONG LEARNING EXPERIENCES. THIS EVENT INCLUDED VERDI'S REQUIEM WITH JOSHUA HABERMANN, BEETHOVEN'S MISSA SOLEMNIS WITH DUAIN WOLFE, FAURE'S REQUIEM WITH ELENA SHARKOVA, AND DURUFLE'S REQUIEM WITH EUGENE ROGERS.


PSC HELD SEPTEMBER SINGS (INSTEAD OF THE USUAL SUMMER SINGS) ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2020. 353 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE VIRTUAL CONCERT WITH GUEST CONDUCTOR SHARON PAUL.
