NATIONAL PROGRAMMING UNIT - REACHING AUDIENCES IN THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS EACH WEEK, KBC IS THE PRIMARY PRODUCER OF NATIVE- ORIENTED PROGRAMMING FOR THE ENTIRE PUBLIC RADIO SYSTEM. KBC'S AWARD WINNING PROGRAMS INCLUDE: NATIVE AMERICA CALLING, A DAILY ONE-HOUR LIVE MODERATED CALL-IN PROGRAM THAT IS BROADCAST BY OVER 100 STATIONS AND REPEATERS IN ALASKA, AND ON THE TRIBAL OWNED STATION AS WELL AS OTHER PUBLIC RADIO STATIONS LOCATED IN MARKETS WITH HIGH NATIVE AMERICAN POPULATIONS; NATIONAL NATIVE NEWS, A 5- MINUTE DAILY NEWSCAST, THE ONLY ONE FROM A NATIVE AMERICAN PERSPECTIVE THAT IS HEARD ON MORE THAN 350 RADIO STATIONS (AND THEIR TRANSLATORS) THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND CANADA; AND "INDIGEFI", A DYNAMIC WEEKLY PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTING THE CONTEMPORARY NATIVE MUSIC THAT IS AIRED BY APPROXIMATELY 100 STATIONS (AND REPEATERS) THROUGHOUT THE NATION, INCLUDING SAN DIEGO, CA AND PHOENIX, AZ.
BROADCASTING SINCE 1996, KNBA WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY NATIVE OWNED AND OPERATED PUBLIC RADIO STATION LOCATED IN AN URBAN MARKET. KNBA'S SIGNAL REACHES THE ANCHORAGE METROPOLITAN AREA, MATANUSKA-SUSITNA VALLEY AND KENAI PENINSULA. KBC'S ANNUAL COVERAGE OF THE ALASKA FEDERATION OF NATIVES CONVENTION IS CARRIED VIA SATELLITE BY RADIO STATIONS IN COMMUNITIES ACROSS ALASKA, INCLUDING BARROW, BETHEL, CHEVAK, DILLINGHAM, AND FAIRBANKS.
