THE ASSOCIATION STRIVES TO PROVIDE SEMINARS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY, UTILIZING LOCAL TALENT WHILE KEEPING REGISTRATION COSTS AT A MINIMUM. DVD'S OF CONFERENCES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL OR VIEWING AT A LATER TIME.GAL TRAINING - ORGANIZED TO SUPPORT GUARDIAN AD LITEM PROFESSIONALS WITH EDUCATIONAL TRAINING AND RESOURCES.NEWSLETTER - ALL MEMBERS RECEIVE THE CALENDAR CALL NEWSLETTER, ISSUED TWICE MONTHLY, EITHER BY MAIL OR DIGITALLY. LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICES, PRO BONO SERVICES, AND OTHER SOCIAL AND NETWORKING PROGRAMS: LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE - THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES A "LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE" FOR THE PUBLIC. VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICES - THE ASSOCIATION PROMOTES VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE LOW INCOME AND UNDERPRIVILEGED.ONLINE ACCESS TO AN UP-TO-DATE SPOKANE COUNTY COURT FAMILY LAW MEDIATOR ROSTER FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. OTHER FUNCTIONS - THE ASSOCIATION ALSO SPONSORS OTHER FUNCTIONS AND EVENTS WHICH BENEFITS THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF THE BAR AS A WHOLE: MONTHLY BAR LUNCHEONS ARE OFFERED FEATURING KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIARY OR COMMUNITY LEADERS. SOCIAL AND MARKETING SERVICES CONTINUED: THE ANNUAL PROFESSIONALISM DINNER HONORS A MEMBER OF THE LEGAL COMMUNITY WHO EXHIBITS THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALISM AND HONORS MEMBERS OF BAR WHO HAVE BEEN PRACTICING FOR 50 YEARS. THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY AND VLP SILENT AUCTION IS A FAVORITE OF THE LOCAL MEMBERSHIP. THE PARTY PROVIDES THE MEMBERSHIP AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET LONG-TIME FRIENDS AND SPREAD SOME GOOD CHEER. THE SILENT AUCTION IS A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER FOR THE VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROGRAM, A RELATED 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION.
SPECIALIZATION SUPPORT AND COMMITTEES:SECTION AFFILIATION & NETWORKING - BEING A MEMBER PROMOTES CAMARADERIE, AND FELLOWSHIP IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION. SCBA MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN "SECTIONS" OF THE BAR. SECTIONS ARE FOCUS GROUPS THAT MEETING REGULARLY TO DISCUSS ISSUES RELATIVE TO THE SPECIFIC AREA OF LAW OR LEGAL PROFESSION. CURRENTLY, THE SPOKANE COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION HAS A YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION, ADR SECTION, DIVERSITY SECTION, A FAMILY LAW SECTION, SOLO & SMALL PRACTICE SECTION, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SECTION, INDIAN LAW SECTION, LGBTA LAW SECTION, AND ELDER LAW SECTION.COMMITTEES INCLUDE ACTIVITIES CARRIED ON BY MEMBERS TO FURTHER ENHANCE SPECIALIZATION IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION.ADDITIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE DIVERSITY AND YLD DIVISIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:THE DIVERSITY SECTION: THE MISSION OF THE DIVERSITY SECTION OF THE SPOKANE COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION IS TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY IN THE LOCAL LEGAL COMMUNITY; COMMITTED TO PROMOTING INCLUSIVENESS THROUGH ONGOING EFFORTS FOCUSING ON RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF DIVERSE ATTORNEYS WITHIN THE LOCAL BAR ASSOCIATION AND JUDICIAL SYSTEM. IN COLLABORATION WITH GONZAGA SCHOOL OF LAW AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, WE ARE SEEKING WAYS TO ADDRESS THE RACIAL AND ETHNIC DISPARITIES THAT CURRENTLY EXISTS. THE YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION: THE SYLD PROVIDES NEW AND YOUNG LAWYERS WITH NETWORKING AND REFERRAL OPPORTUNITIES, SOCIAL CONNECTIONS, AND LOW-COST CLES ON TOPICS OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO THOSE WHO ARE NEW TO PRACTICE. MEMBERS OF THE SCBA WHO ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 36 OR WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE YEARS OF PRACTICE (WHICHEVER OCCURS LATER) ARE AUTOMATICALLY MEMBERS OF THE SYLD WITHOUT FURTHER DUES OR REGISTRATION. THE YLD ALSO SPONSORS A VETERANS WILL CLINIC FOR ESTATE PLANNING. DOCUMENTS ARE PREPARED FOR NO CHARGE FOR VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATE AND THEIR SPOUSES.
