FIRE ADAPT COMMUNITIES PROGRAM: WITH SUPPORT FROM THE US BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT AND PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, THE WRC&D CONTINUED TO COORDINATE THE WASHINGTON FIRE ADAPTED COMMUNITIES LEARNING NETWORK (WAFAC).WAFAC SUPPORTS LOCAL ACTION, CONNECTS PEOPLE TO RESOURCES, FACILITATES RESULTS, AND INFORMS ON-THE-GROUND PROJECTS TO HELP WASHINGTON BETTER ADAPT TO WILDFIRE. WAFAC PROGRAM STAFF WORK TO BETTER PREPARE WASHINGTON COMMUNITIES BEFORE,DURING, AND AFTER FIRES BY PROVIDING TOOLS AND RESOURCES LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND AGENCIES TO DEVELOP AND ACT ON PLACE-BASED STRATEGIES AND PRIORITIES.WAFAC PROVIDED 12 COMMUNITY FIREADAPTATION TRAININGS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, FIRE DISTRICTS, CONSERVATION DISTRICTS,HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS, LOCAL WILDFIRE COALITIONS, HOSTED FIVE INTRO TO FIRE ADAPTED COMMUNITIES WORKSHOPS, AND SUPPORTED TRIBAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS FOCUSED ONFOREST RESTORATION THROUGH INDIGENOUS PRACTICES.
YAKIMA TRIBUTARY ACCESS AND HABITAT PROGRAM (YTAHP) IS DEDICATED TO SALMON, STEELHEAD,AND BULL TROUT RECOVERY UNDER THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT. YTAHP SUPPORTS LANDOWNERS AND PARTNERING CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS TO CONSTRUCT PROJECTS AS WELL AS MAINTAIN PROGRAM PLANNING AND ADMIN, SUPPORT PROJECT DEVELOPMENT,INCLUDING PLANNING,DESIGN AND PERMITTING, AND CONDUCT LANDOWNER OUTREACH AND COORDINATION. YTHAP SUPPORTED THEIMPLEMENTATION OF 8 FISH PASSAGE AND HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECTS, ONGOING RIPARIAN VEGETATION,AND SITE STEWARDSHIP ON 6 PROJECTS AND PROVIDED SIGNIFICANT WORK TOWARD PROJECT DEVELOPMENT,PERMITS, DESIGN AND/OR FUNDING FOR AN ADDITIONAL 7 PROJECTS.THE PROJECTS COMPLETED IN 2021CUMULATIVELY RESULTED IN SCREENING 3.8 CFS OF DIVERTED SURFACE WATER, RESTORING FISH PASSAGE TO 13.5 MILE OF TRIBUTARY HABITAT AND INSTALLING OVER .4 MILES OF RIPARIAN PLANTING ON FOUR STREAMS IN THE YAKIMA BASIN.
COOPERATIVE FORESTRY ASSISTANCE AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE PROGRAMS: A SERIES OF PROJECTS COMPLETED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE WHOSE MISSION IS TO SUSTAIN THE HEALTH,DIVERSITY,ANDPRODUCTIVITY, OR THE NATIONS FORESTS, GRASSLANDS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS.WRCD COMPLETED A SERIES OF PROJECTS SUPPORTING ACCELERATED LANDSCAPE SCALE FOREST RESTORATION AND COMMUNITY FIRE ADAPTATION. A DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS AND PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE WAS CHOSEN FOR THE PROPOSED FOREST HEALTH TREATMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 85,000 ACRES OF FEDERAL LANDS IN CHELAN COUNTY.WRCD WORKED TO INCREASE WORKFORCE CAPACITY THROUGH PRESCRIBED FIRE TRAINING, COORDINATING PRESCRIBED BURNS IN KITTITAS CTY; PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS TRAINING AND WORKSHOPS FOR COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PRACTITIONERS ACROSS THE STATE.
