PRIMM HAS BEEN PROVIDING CARE AND PRESCHOOL EDUCATION TO CHILDREN IN THE SOUTH END OF SEATTLE SINCE 1970. PRIMM WAS LICENSED BY DCYF TO PROVIDE CARE FOR 49 CHILDREN AGES 1-12, PROVIDING TODDLERS, PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS. PRIMM WAS AWARDED $2.2 M IN GRANTS TOWARDS A $3.3M RENOVATION TO ENABLE PRIMM TO SERVE 100 CHILDREN. THE FAMILIES SERVED BY THE CHILDCARE CENTER REFLECT THE DIVERSITY FOUND THROUGHOUT SOUTH SEATTLE. EIGHTY PERCENT OF ENROLLED FAMILIES ARE FAMILIES OF COLOR. THE EXPANSION WILL ENABLE MORE CHILDREN TO RECEIVE HIGH QUALITY, CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE PRESCHOOL EDUCATION IN A COMMUNITY THAT IS EXPERIENCING DRAMATIC DISPLACEMENT PRESSURES. PRIMM AUGMENTS ITS CURRICULUM WITH TEACHING ABOUT CULTURAL PRIDE AND DIVERSITY, AND FOCUSES ON BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM AMONG ITS MAINLY BLACK, AND LATINO CHILDREN. SOME CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BI-LINGUALLY. IT HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST TUITION RATES FOR CHILD CARE IN THE CITY, AND IS OPEN FROM 6:00 A.M. TO 6 P.M., 51 WEEKS A YEAR.PRIMM CURRENTLY SERVES 19 TODDLERS, 15 PRESCHOOLERS AND 8 SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN.
