MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM INCLUDES FIVE HOSPITALS, MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER (MMC), DECATUR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (DMH), PASSAVANT MEMORIAL AREA HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION (PAH), THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (ALMH), AND TAYLORVILLE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (TMH). THE HOSPITALS PROVIDE A WIDE VARIETY OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO INPATIENTS, OUTPATIENTS AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT SERVICES. 177,386 PATIENT DAYS, 31,311 DISCHARGES, AND 826,599 OUTPATIENT VISITS WERE PROVIDED BY THE HOSPITALS IN FY2021. IN FY2021, $8 MILLION IN CHARITY CARE WAS PROVIDED BY MHS HOSPITALS. JACKSONVILLE CRNA PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETIST SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITIES IN THE PAH SERVICE AREA. FOR FY 2021, SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FOR 4,216 CASES. MMC PREPARED TO IMPLEMENT A NEW BRAND LOGO AND TO CHANGE ITS NAME TO SPRINGFIELD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (SMH) EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 2021. MMC RECEIVED PERMANENT APPROVAL TO INCREASE ICU BEDS FOR THE NEW ICU UNIT THAT WAS OPENED UNDER TEMPORARY STATUS IN FY2020. MEDICAL - SURGICAL BEDS WERE PERMANENTLY REDUCED SO MMC WOULD REMAIN A 500 LICENSED BED HOSPITAL. MMC RECEIVED ITS FORTH MAGNET DESIGNATION FOR EXCELLENCE IN NURSING CARE. LESS THAN 2% OF THE HOSPITALS IN THE COUNTRY HAVE ACHIEVED THIS STATUS. MMC ALSO WAS RECOGNIZED BY US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT AS BEST REGIONAL HOSPITAL IN WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS RECEIVING HONORS FOR 7 SPECIFIC AREAS OF CARE. MMC ALSO RECEIVED 4 STATE JOURNAL REGISTER READER CHOICE AWARDS FOR BEST HOSPITAL, BEST EMERGENCY ROOM, BEST TRAUMA CENTER AND BEST SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS CENTER FOR FY2021.DMH JOINED THE SYSTEM IN OCTOBER 2019, ONLY MONTHS BEFORE THE PANDEMIC UPENDED NORMAL LIFE AND PUT UNPRECEDENTED PRESSURES ON HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS. WORK TO INTEGRATE DMH POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND SYSTEMS CONTINUED INTO 2021. ONE OF THE MOST CRUCIAL INTEGRATION PROJECTS UNDERWAY IN 2021 WAS THE EFFORT TO IMPLEMENT A SINGLE ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD SYSTEM ACROSS ALL MEMORIAL SITES OF CARE. THIS CONTINUING PROJECT WILL BRING DMH ONTO THE CERNER PLATFORM.DURING FY2021, PAH COMPLETED A DRIVE-THRU LAB FACILITY. THE NEW STRUCTURE HAS 2 DRIVE-THRU BAYS AS WELL AS AN ENVIRONMENTALLY CONTROLLED WORK AREA AND RESTROOM. THE NEW DRIVE-THRU LAB OFFERS PATIENTS ACCESS TO BASIC LAB SERVICES IN THE CONVENIENCE OF THEIR CAR WITHOUT NEEDING TO VENTURE INTO THE MAIN HOSPITAL BUILDING. BASED ON CHANGING PATIENT PREFERENCES DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC, IT WAS IMPORTANT TO OFFER A CONVENIENT ACCESS POINT FOR PATIENTS TO RECEIVE THESE SERVICES. PAH ALSO CONTINUED WORK TOWARDS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A STANDARDIZED ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD AND REVENUE CYCLE SYSTEMS. THE STANDARDIZED SYSTEM WILL BRING PAH ON TO THE CERNER PLATFORM ALLOWING FOR ENHANCED PATIENT MANAGEMENT ACROSS THE HEALTH SYSTEM. THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN 2023.IN FY2021, ALMH WAS NAMED A 2021 CLIMATE CHAMPION BY HEALTH CARE WITHOUT HARM, A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT ANNUALLY RECOGNIZES HEALTH CARE GROUPS WHO TAKE STEPS TO REDUCE THEIR CARBON FOOTPRINT. AS A PARTICIPANT IN HEALTH CARE WITHOUT HARM'S HEALTH CARE CLIMATE CHALLENGE, THE NONPROFIT HOSPITAL RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING: A SILVER AWARD FOR GHG REDUCTION ENERGY AND A GOLD AWARD FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE. ALSO IN RECOGNITION FOR LEADING THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY IN SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, ALMH HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY PRACTICE GREENHEALTH SINCE 2017 AND WON THE CIRCLES OF EXCELLENCE HONORS IN GREENING THE OPERATING ROOM. ADDITIONALLY, IN FY2021 ALMH EARNED RECOGNITION FROM THE COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVES (CHIME) FOR THE NONPROFIT HOSPITAL'S EFFECTIVE USE OF CORE AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES IN ITS CLINICAL AND BUSINESS PROGRAMS. THE 2021 CHIME DIGITAL HEALTH MOST WIRED RECOGNITION IS AWARDED TO HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS THAT DEMONSTRATE EFFECTIVE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN CLINICAL AND NONCLINICAL AREAS IN FOUR CATEGORIES: ACUTE, AMBULATORY, LONG-TERM CARE AND INTERNATIONAL ACUTE. LINCOLN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EARNED A LEVEL 7 CERTIFICATION, OUT OF 10 LEVELS.ON JULY 7, 2021, THE SECOND AND FINAL PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION ON THE TWO-STORY, 97,000-SQUARE-FOOT FACILITY FOR TMH THAT REPLACED MOST OF THE ORIGINAL 1954 HOSPITAL WAS COMPLETED. THIS PHASE INVOLVED DEMOLISHING THE FIVE-STORY FORMER HOSPITAL AND EXPANDING THE NEW ADDITION TO INCLUDE A KITCHEN AND CAFETERIA PLUS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES. THIS PROJECT REFLECTS TMH'S DESIRE TO REINVEST IN THEIR COMMUNITY WITH A BRAND-NEW FACILITY MEANT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY.
PHYSICIANSMEMORIAL PHYSICIAN SERVICES (MPS) IS A PROVIDER NETWORK OF 9 BRANCH CLINICS THAT SUPPORT A VARIETY OF OUTPATIENT SERVICES THROUGHOUT CENTRAL ILLINOIS. PATIENTS MAY BE CARED FOR IN A CLINIC, NURSING HOME, HOSPITAL OR VIRTUAL SETTING. MPS ALSO OFFERS 7 WALK-IN EXPRESSCARE VISITS LOCATIONS TO IMPROVE PATIENT ACCESS. COMPRISED OF MORE THAN 159 PHYSICIANS, ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES, DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS. MPS EMPLOYS MORE THAN 490 SUPPORT PERSONNEL AND PROVIDED 232,895 PRIMARY CARE PATIENTS VISITS AND 133,350 EXPRESS CARE VISITS FOR FY 2021. PHYSICIAN OFFICES AND CLINICS ARE LOCATED IN SPRINGFIELD, JACKSONVILLE, LINCOLN, PETERSBURG, AND CHATHAM. MPS ALSO HAS AN ON-SITE CLINIC AT A LOCAL NURSING HOME TO IMPROVE ACCESS FOR ELDERLY RESIDENTS. ALL OF THE MPS PRIMARY CARE CLINICS ARE NCQA DESIGNATED LEVEL 3 PATIENT CENTERED MEDICAL HOMES. MPS PROVIDES COMMUNITY BENEFITS BY MENTORING AND PROVIDING HEALTH PROFESSION EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS, ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES, DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANTS.THESE PRACTICES PROVIDE QUALITY AMBULATORY MEDICAL CARE REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, HANDICAP, AGE, OR ABILITY TO PAY. AMBULATORY & OTHERMEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM OPERATES THREE AMBULATORY AFFILIATES THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE GROUP 990 RETURN: MEMORIAL HOME SERVICES (MHSVC), MEMORIAL HEALTH VENTURES (MHV), AND SPRINGFIELD RESIDENTIAL SERVICES (SRS).MHSVC PROVIDES HOME HEALTH, HOSPICE AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENT SERVICES ACROSS A 14-COUNTY REGION IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS. HOME HEALTH SERVICES INCLUDE SKILLED, HIGH-TECH NURSING, HOME HEALTH AIDES, PALLIATIVE CARE, SPECIALIZED WOUND CARE, TELEHEALTH, NUTRITIONAL SERVICES, SOCIAL SERVICES, AND REHABILITATION. HOSPICE SERVICES INCLUDE PAIN AND SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT, BEREAVEMENT CARE, VOLUNTEER SERVICES, AS WELL AS EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL CARE FOR TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE HOSPICE PROGRAM ALSO HAS ON-STAFF MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKERS, HOME HEALTH AIDES, A CHAPLAIN AND DIETARY COUNSELING. HOME HEALTH RECORDED A TOTAL OF 38,173VISITS IN FY2021 AND 2,135 ADMISSIONS. THE HOSPICE AVERAGE DAILY CENSUS IN FY2021 WAS 74.5 DAYS WITH 653 ADMISSIONS, FOR A TOTAL OF 27,178 DAYS.MHV OWNS AND PROVIDES OVERSIGHT FOR JOINT VENTURES WITH ENTITIES ENTERED INTO BY MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM. ALL OF THESE VENTURES MUST BE IN KEEPING WITH THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM MISSION OF PROVIDING CONTINUUM OF CARE TO PATIENTS IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THEY INCLUDE A LONG TERM CARE FACILITY, AND AN AMBULATORY SURGICAL TREATMENT CENTER. THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EQUIPMENT LEASING COMPANY WAS DISSOLVED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2020. IN FY2019, MEMORIAL HOSPICE AT HERITAGE, A 19 BED SKILLED NURSING UNIT, WAS OPENED TO HELP MEET THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF HOSPICE PATIENTS AND FAMILIES WHO MAY NEED A FACILITY SETTING FOR END-OF-LIFE CARE. THE AMBULATORY SURGICAL TREATMENT CENTER COMPLETED 4,266 SURGICAL AND PAIN PROCEDURES IN FY2021.SRS PROVIDES HOUSING FACILITIES AND SERVICES TO NON-ELDERLY ADULTS DIAGNOSED WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES BY MEANS OF CONSTRUCTING A HUD HOUSING PROJECT. DURING FY2021, A TOTAL OF 16 CLIENTS RESIDED IN THE FACILITY.
