THE ARCHER ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (AAA) CONTINUED TO BE AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR YOUTH TO PARTICIPATE IN RECREATIONAL TEAM SPORTS. THESE PROGRAMS ENCOURAGED AND PROMOTED HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOR THESE YOUTH BY KEEPING THEM PHYSICALLY ACTIVE WHILE SUPPORTING GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND TEAMWORK IN A SAFE AND FUN ATMOSPHERE. ________________________________________________ THE 2021 SEASONS BROUGHT CONTINUED CHALLENGES AS AAA WORKED TO KEEP OUR VOLUNTEERS, PARTICIPANTS, AND FAMILIES SAFE THROUGH THE ONGOING COVID 19 PANDEMIC. AAA WORKED CLOSELY WITH OUR COUNTY AND STATE-LEVEL HEALTH AGENCIES TO PROTECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. AAA BECAME A MODEL FOR OTHER YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS IN OUR COUNTY BY ACTING DECISIVELY AND IN COORDINATION WITH OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM AND PARKS AND RECREATION ADMINISTRATION. DESPITE THE CONTINUED CONCERNS WITH THE PANDEMIC AAA SAW PARTICIPATION IN OUR YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS INCREASE BY OVER 400 REGISTRATIONS. IN TOTAL, AAA PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2223 YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN TEAM SPORTS. AAA CONTINUES TO WORK IN COOPERATION WITH GWINNETT COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION TO KEEP OUR PARKS CLEAN AND SAFE. IN THE FALL OF 2021, AAA MADE A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT TOWARDS THIS GOAL BY HAVING A LIGHTNING DETECTION/WARNING SYSTEM INSTALLED AT BOTH OUR BASEBALL/SOFTBALL PARK AND OUR FOOTBALL/SOCCER PARK. THIS SYSTEM BRINGS ANOTHER LEVEL OF SAFETY FOR NOT ONLY THOSE WHO VOLUNTEER AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR AAA PROGRAMS, BUT ALSO FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO USE THE PARKS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. REPRESENTATIVES OF AAA HAVE ALSO BEEN WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE GWINNETT COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION TO ADVOCATE AND LOBBY FOR THE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO ADD A SOCCER COMPLEX AT HARBINS PARK TO ACCOMMODATE OUR GROWING COMMUNITY AND PROGRAM. DUE TO THE WORK OF THESE REPRESENTATIVES AND THE DEMONSTRATED LEVEL OF COMMITMENT THAT AAA HAS SHOWN AS A PARTNER WITH THE COUNTY TO IMPROVE AND KEEP OUR PARKS CLEAN AND SAFE, WE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THE SOCCER COMPLEX HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION'S LIST OF PRIORITY PROJECTS IN THE COUNTY.
