Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
SCIENCE FOR AMERICA IS A NON-PROFIT "SOLUTIONS INCUBATOR" THAT BRINGS TOGETHER SCIENTISTS AND TECHNOLOGISTS AND WORKS WITH PARTNERS ACROSS SECTORS TO:-IDENTIFY POTENTIAL GAME-CHANGING SOLUTIONS TO URGENT CHALLENGES, IN THE US AND AROUND THE WORLD, THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY HAPPENING,-DEVELOP CLEAR VISION, STRATEGY AND EXECUTION PLANS, AND-ENSURE THE LAUNCH AND SUCCESS OF THOSE SOLUTIONS, BY INCUBATING THEM TO AN APPROPRIATE STAGE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
WE CONVENED THE CLIMATE & ENERGY STRATEGIC ADVISORS TO DISCUSS GOALS THAT, IF ACHIEVED, COULD ADDRESS MAJOR CHALLENGES IN THE CLIMATE CRISIS. AFTER CONSIDERING EIGHT SUCH GOALS, WE IDENTIFIED THREE QUESTIONS WHERE WE THOUGHT ADVANCES IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MIGHT GIVE RISE TO GAME-CHANGING SOLUTIONS. WE FOCUSED INITIALLY ON THE FOLLOWING QUESTION: ARE THERE PROMISING APPROACHES FOR MAKING ABUNDANT, FIRM, ON-DEMAND, UBIQUITOUS, INEXPENSIVE CLEAN POWER THAT ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING LITTLE ATTENTION?
A TEAM OF SCIENCE FOR AMERICA STAFF AND ADVISORS HAS BEEN CARRYING OUT A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO ACCELERATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW CANCER THERAPEUTICS.
WORKING WITH TWO ADVISORS WHO HAVE DEEP EXPERTISE IN SCIENCE, EQUITY, AND EDUCATION, WE ASSEMBLED A PANEL OF TEN EXPERTS. FOLLOWING TWO VIRTUAL MEETINGS, WE HOSTED AN IN-PERSON WORKSHOP TO IDENTIFY URGENT CHALLENGES AND EXAMPLES OF EXPANDING EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS.
