ADVANCING NUTRITION SECURITY AND HEALTH EQUITY-HEALTHY ARCHULETA SUPPORTS ADVANCING NUTRITION SECURITY AND HEALTHY EQUITY IN ARCHULETA COUNTY THROUGH COMMUNITY-INITIATED SOLUTIONS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDED PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING A COMMUNITY PARTICIPATORY NUTRITION SECURITY-HEALTH EQUITY ASSESSMENT. THIS EFFORT AIMS TO UNDERSTAND FROM THE COMMUNITY THE CURRENT STATE OF NUTRITION SECURITY AND PRIMARY HEALTHCARE ACCESS AND UTILIZATION AND TO IDENTIFY ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THESE AREAS. COMMUNITY MEMBERS (N=195) PARTICIPATED IN SHARING INFORMATION FOR THE ASSESSMENT THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEWS AND SURVEYS. ADDITIONALLY, PARTNER ORGANIZATION (N=30) HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS. HEALTHY ARCHULETA HAS ALSO WORKED WITH SCHOOLS TO ENGAGE YOUTH (N=35) IN SHARING THEIR VOICE ON ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE COMMUNITY AS PART OF THIS EFFORT.
SUPPORTING FOOD ACCESS-HEALTHY ARCHULETA SUPPORTS THE ARCHULETA COUNTY FOOD PANTRY NETWORK THROUGH COORDINATION AND ALIGNMENT. ONE ASPECT OF THIS WORK THIS PAST YEAR HAS BEEN TO SUPPORT THE SIX FOOD PANTRIES IN ARCHULETA COUNTY THROUGH THE FOOD PANTRY NETWORK WITH ACCESS TO LOCALLY SOURCED FOODS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE FOOD DISTRIBUTION CENTER. FOOD PURCHASES SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS, RANCHERS, AND FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS TO PROVIDE FRESH FOOD FOR THE FOOD PANTRIES. HEALTHY ARCHULETA PURCHASED OVER 2,800 POUNDS OF LOCAL GROUND BEEF AND 2,000 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE. ADDITIONALLY, FOOD DRIVES IN THE COMMUNITY DONATED OVER 3,500 ITEMS TO THE FOOD PANTRY NETWORK.
ENGAGING COMMUNITY IN THE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM-HEALTHY ARCHULETA WORKS TO ADVANCE AN EQUITABLE COMMUNITY-BASED FOOD SYSTEM THAT EVERYONE CAN CONTRIBUTE TO AND BENEFIT FROM. ACTIVITIES THIS YEAR INCLUDED (A) HOSTING SEASONAL FOOD DEMONSTRATIONS AT LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES (N=6); (B) SUPPORTING BACKYARD GROWERS TO EXPAND PRODUCTION AND DONATE TO THE FOOD PANTRIES (250 LBS OF PRODUCE DONATED); (C) HOSTING AN ARCHULETA COUNTY REGIONAL FOOD SUMMIT (N=100); (D) PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION TO ESTABLISHING A NEW COMMUNITY GROWING SPACE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AFFORDABLE HOUSING NEIGHBORHOOD (N=100); ENHANCING AWARENESS RELATED TO THE ELEMENTS OF THE FOOD SYSTEM VIA FACEBOOK, E-NEWS, INSTAGRAM, AND LOCAL NEWS OUTLETS (N=600). AN ESTIMATED NUMBER OF 550 NON-UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS ENGAGED IN THESE ACTIVITIES.
