A CURIAE (SHORT FOR AMICUS CURIAE, LATIN FOR FRIEND OF THE COURT) IMPROVES OUTCOMES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM BY SUPPORTING THE COURT, CLIENTS, AND INTERESTED AGENCIES THROUGH COLLABORATION AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

PROFESSIONAL MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE -SERVED 9 CLIENTS IN 2023 PROVIDING 33 HOURS OF TOTAL MENTORSHIP FOR THE PROGRAM. A CURIAE PARTNERS WITH THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA AND MENTORS FROM A TECHNOLOGY COMPANY COALITION TO OPERATE A MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, THE PROFESSIONAL MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, PROFESSIONALS FROM VARIOUS BACKGROUNDS, INCLUDING ATTORNEYS, PROGRAM MANAGERS, AND ENGINEERS AMONG MANY OTHERS, PROVIDE CAREER-RELATED MENTORSHIP, GUIDANCE, AND CONNECTION TO CLIENTS AT VARIOUS POINTS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL CAREER. CLIENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO UTILIZE THE MENTORSHIP AND TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROCESS SETTING THEIR OWN GOALS, DIRECTING CONVERSATIONS, AND LEARNING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM. WHETHER LOOKING FOR A FIRST JOB OR TRANSITIONING TO THEIR DREAM JOB, CLIENTS WORK WITH MENTORS VOLUNTEERING THEIR TIME FOR REGULAR CHECK-INS TO ENCOURAGE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH. CLIENTS WORK DIRECTLY WITH MENTORS OVER 6 MONTHS AND A MINIMUM 2-HOUR TIME COMMITMENT TO RECEIVE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH TIPS FOR THINGS SUCH AS RESUMES, INTERVIEW SKILLS, AND CAREER POTENTIAL. MENTORS MEET WITH CLIENTS VIRTUALLY TO BUILD RAPPORT AND TALK THROUGH VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL AND WORK ISSUES. RESOURCE REFERRAL ASSISTANCE -COMPLETED 21 RESOURCE REQUESTS AVERAGING 4 DAYS BETWEEN REQUEST OF SERVICE AND REFERRAL. BY FINDING APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY BASED AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS INDIVIDUAL ISSUES, A CURIAE COLLABORATES WITH THE COURT, ATTORNEYS, OFFICERS, AND TREATMENT PROVIDERS TO ENHANCE AND FILL THE GAPS FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE INVOLVED CLIENTS. THIS INCLUDES EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE, COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND CASE MANAGEMENT AMONG OTHER ISSUES PROVIDED IN THEIR PROGRAM PLAN. WE WORK WITH THE COURT AND SUPERVISION OFFICERS TO ENSURE SUPERVISION COMPLIANCE BY MAINTAINING CORRESPONDENCE WITH REFERRAL PARTNERS TO UNDERSTAND THE NUISANCES OF ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS TO HELP CLIENTS UTILIZE THESE RESOURCES. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TRACK -COMPLETED 6 REQUESTS TOTALING $1,575 DOLLARS INVESTED INTO THE REENTRY POPULATION. PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM FACE SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS FOR BASIC NEEDS. A CURIAE ASSISTS WITH REMOVING BARRIERS BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF UP TO $250 PER CLIENT PER YEAR FOR DRIVERS LICENSES, HOUSING APPLICATIONS, AND WORKPLACE ATTIRE AMONG OTHER BARRIERS. WE WORK CLOSELY WITH THE COURT, COLLABORATIVE COURT PROGRAMS, AND OFFICERS TO REWARD AND INCENTIVIZE CLIENTS ON SUPERVISION BY PROVIDING THIS ASSISTANCE.
