THE MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY CENTER (MHEC) IS A COUNTY-WIDE PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OFFERING 24/7/365 CRISIS MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT, STABILIZATION, TREATMENT, AND TRANSITION CARE MANAGEMENT FOR CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS.

MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY CENTER INC. (MHEC) COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION AND BEGAN SERVING PATIENTS IN SEPTEMBER 2022. MHEC SERVES AS AN ANCHOR INSTITUTION IN ITS SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOOD, PROVIDING INCREASED SAFETY, REVITALIZATION AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS. FROM ITS OPENING UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR, MHEC PROVIDED TIMELY EMERGENCY TREATMENT TO OVER 3,700 PATIENTS, WITH MANY OF THESE PATIENTS STABILIZED AT MHEC AND PROMPTLY TRANSFERRED TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF CARE. MHEC ALSO EMPLOYS ABOUT 70 FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT STAFF, WITH 60% OF THE HIRES FILLED BY PEOPLE OF COLOR, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE RACIAL AND ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS OF THE CLIENTS SERVED AT THE EMERGENCY CENTER.
