EDUCATION & OUTREACH THE ACLU OF UTAH DELIVERED NUMEROUS PRESENTATIONS ABOUT INDIVIDUALS RIGHTS AND LIBERTIES. PRESENTATIONS WERE MADE IN PERSON AND DIGITALLY AND FOCUSED ON THE RIGHTS OF MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES. IN ADDITION TO FULFILLING DOZENS OF REQUESTS BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS, ORGANIZATIONS AND SCHOOLS TO SPEAK ABOUT A SPECIFIC TOPIC, THE ACLU OF UTAH FOUNDATION PARTICIPATES IN COMMUNITY EVENTS TO SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR MISSION AND TO ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM UTAHNS ABOUT OUR WORK. FURTHER, WE PROVIDE WRITTEN KNOW YOUR RIGHTS MATERIALS TO INFORM THE COMMUNITY OF THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS IN A VARIETY OF SITUATIONS. WE STRIVE TO EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS THROUGH EDUCATION TO USE THEIR RIGHTS AT THE POLLS, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON THE ISSUES NATIVE AMERICANS MAY FACE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO VOTE.
LEGAL THE ACLU OF UTAH FOUNDATION RECEIVE HUNDREDS OF REQUESTS FOR LEGAL ASSISTANCE FROM INDIVIDUALS EACH YEAR THROUGH THE MAIL, PHONE, AND OVER EMAIL. WE REVIEW EACH INQUIRY AND PROVIDE A CUSTOMIZED RESPONSE. WE SELECT LEGAL CASES TO PURSUE ACCORDING TO CRITERIA THAT INCLUDE: THE NATURE OF THE COMPLAINT, THE IMPACT OF THE ISSUE BEYOND THE INDIVIDUAL COMPLAINANT, THE NOVELTY OF THE ISSUE, AND THE AVAILABILITY OF ALTERNATIVE LEGAL ASSISTANCE. IN ADDITION TO LITIGATION, WE UNDERTAKE LEGAL ADVOCACY WITH LOCAL AND STATE ELECTED OFFICIALS AND POLICYMAKERS.
