Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
AS PART OF ITS JUDICIAL ACCOUNTABILITY WORK, DEMAND JUSTICE INITIATIVE HOSTS EVENTS AND PROGRAMMING TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE BODY OF RULINGS AND ETHICS QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO THE SUPREME COURT. THESE EVENTS LIFT UP INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS IMPACTED BY JUDICIAL DECISIONS TO SHOW THE PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE COURT'S JURISPRUDENCE. WE ALSO BRING TOGETHER EXPERTS AND ACADEMICS TO DISCUSS TRANSPARENCY CONCERNS RELATED TO THE COURT, SUCH AS THE COURT'S LACK OF AN ETHICS CODE AND CLEAR RECUSAL STANDARDS, THE LACK OF VIDEO STREAMING OF ORAL ARGUMENTS, AND HOLES IN THE COURT'S DISCLOSURES REQUIREMENTS WHEN IT COMES TO POTENTIAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST.
DEMAND JUSTICE INITIATIVE CONDUCTS A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES TO INCREASE THE PROFESSIONAL DIVERSITY OF THE FEDERAL- AND STATE-LEVEL JUDICIARY. THIS INCLUDES HOSTING THE DEMAND JUSTICE INSTITUTE (DJI) A NONPARTISAN TRAINING PROGRAM AND LEADERSHIP SUMMIT FOR ASPIRING JUDICIAL CANDIDATES AT THE STATE LEVEL. THE INSTITUTE IS A YEAR-LONG PROGRAM DESIGNED TO IDENTIFY, TRAIN, AND ELEVATE A COHORT OF TALENT FROM UNDERREPRESENTED LEGAL BACKGROUNDS.
BALLS & STRIKES IS AN ONLINE PUBLICATION PRODUCED BY DEMAND JUSTICE INITIATIVE THAT PUBLISHES ORIGINAL COMMENTARY AND REPORTING ABOUT COURTS, THE JUDGES WHO PRESIDE OVER THEM, AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM THEY UPHOLD. BALLS & STRIKES SEEKS TO HOLD COURTS, JUDGES, AND MEMBERS OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAILURES TO FULFILL THEIR PROFESSED COMMITMENT TO THE CAUSE OF JUSTICE, AND TO FACILITATE DISCUSSION ABOUT HOW TO MAKE THE LEGAL SYSTEM MORE TRANSPARENT AND FAIR.
