THE SOUTHERN ARIZONA WATERCOLOR GUILD CELEBRATED ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR. THE GUILD BEGAN IN 1967 WITH TEN STUDENTS OF TUCSON ARTIST GERRY PEIRCE. SAWG IS ONE OF THE FOUNDING LEADERS OF THE WESTERN FEDERATION OF WATERCOLOR SOCIETIES AND WILL HOST THEIR 43RD EXHIBITION AND DELEGATE CONFERENCE IN 2018 HERE IN TUCSON. SAWG HAS PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL BENEFITS TO ITS 350 MEMBERS WITH FOUR PREMIER ARTIST WORKSHOPS, MINI-WORKSHOPS, PAINT-OUTS, AND MEETINGS FOR MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION AND EXCHANGE OF IDEAS; A GALLERY TO DISPLAY MEMBER ARTWORK BOTH ON A JURIED AND NON-JURIED BASIS; SCHOLARSHIPS OF OVER $100,000, THIS YEAR TOTALING NEARLY $6,000 FOR 7 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS GOING ON TO ART CAREERS THROUGH COLLEGE STUDIES. SAWG ACCEPTS DONATIONS IN THE FORM OF BEQUESTS AND GIFTS TO FURTHER OUR EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS CONSISTENT WITH OUR NON-PROFIT STATUS.
