THE PURPOSE OF THE THUNDERBIRDS SHALL BE TO PUBLICIZE THE CITY OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA, (CONT'D SCHED O) AND THE PHOENIX METROPOLITAN AREA, BY SPONSORING ATHLETIC EVENTS AND BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO AMATEUR ATHLETES AND YOUTH-ORIENTED CHARITIES.

WITH THE GOAL TO PROMOTE THE PHOENIX METROPOLITAN AREA THROUGH SPORTS, THE THUNDERBIRDS PROMOTED AND PRODUCED THE WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT TO RAISE MONEY FOR ARIZONA CHARITIES, MOST OF WHICH PROVIDE PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT YOUTH. WASTE MANAGEMENT IS THE TITLE SPONSOR, AND THE TOURNAMENT IS HELD AT THE TPC SCOTTSDALE. THE TOURNAMENT GENERATED TOTAL REVENUES OF $83M WITH TOTAL EXPENSES OF $67M. RECENT BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE PHOENIX CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, FIRST TEE OF PHOENIX, SPECIAL OLYMPICS AZ, HOMEWARD BOUND, ST. MARY'S FOOD BANK, SAVE THE FAMILY, ABILITY 360 AND CHILD CRISIS AZ. THE THUNDERBIRDS HAVE RAISED MORE THAN $161M IN THE TOURNAMENT'S 85-YEAR HISTORY.
