GENERAL PROGRAMS - MCRJ'S GENERAL PROGRAMMING INITIATIVES ARE DEDICATED TO PRESERVING AND SHARING FLORIDA'S DIFFICULT BUT VITAL BLACK HISTORY. ALTHOUGH FLORIDA IS OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH SUN AND LEISURE, ITS HISTORY IS MARRED BY SIGNIFICANT ANTI-BLACK VIOLENCE, INCLUDING THE HIGHEST RATES OF LYNCHINGS IN THE SOUTH. THE MIAMI CENTER FOR RACIAL JUSTICE IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING THAT THESE PAINFUL STORIES ARE NOT FORGOTTEN, AS IGNORING THEM MAKES IT MORE LIKELY THAT HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF. THESE EXPENSES COVER THE COSTS OF PURCHASING AND DISTRIBUTING BANNED BOOKS, STAFFING, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND TRANSPORTATION, AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL NEEDS SUCH AS EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, EVENT SUPPLIES, TECHNOLOGY FOR VIRTUAL PROGRAMS AND LECTURES, MARKETING EFFORTS, VOLUNTEER SUPPORT, AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPLIES. THESE INVESTMENTS ALIGN WITH MCRJ'S MISSION TO EDUCATE, RAISE AWARENESS, AND KEEP THESE CRITICAL HISTORIES ALIVE, ENSURING THAT THE ORGANIZATION'S PROGRAMS RUN EFFECTIVELY AND CONTINUE TO MAKE A MEANINGFUL IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY.

TEACH THE TRUTH TOURS - THE TEACH THE TRUTH TOURS PROGRAM IS DEDICATED TO EXPANDING THE TEACHING OF BLACK HISTORY IN FLORIDA BY PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH IMPACTFUL, IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES AT KEY HISTORICAL SITES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THIS PROGRAM COVERS ESSENTIAL EXPENSES, INCLUDING BUS TRANSPORTATION, HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS, TOUR GUIDES, AND TOUR SUPPLIES, TO ENSURE EACH TOUR IS ACCESSIBLE AND ENRICHING FOR ALL STUDENTS. ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS, SUCH AS PERMITS, SITE ACCESS FEES, AND MARKETING, ALONG WITH PRINTED MATERIALS AND AUDIO/VISUAL EQUIPMENT, ENHANCE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE. SUPPORT FOR STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, FIRST AID SUPPLIES, REFRESHMENTS, AND TRAINING SESSIONS MAINTAINS A SAFE AND ENGAGING ENVIRONMENT.
TEACH THE TRUTH GARDEN - THE TEACH THE TRUTH GARDEN PROGRAM IS A DEDICATED INITIATIVE TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN A LIVING SPACE THAT EDUCATES THE COMMUNITY ON HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE THROUGH HANDS-ON ENGAGEMENT WITH NATURE. PROGRAM EXPENSES COVER CONTRACTED WORKERS, A DEDICATED GARDEN MANAGER, AND ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES FOR UPKEEP, SUCH AS VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT RENTALS. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES INCLUDE TOOLS, SEEDS, SOIL, FERTILIZERS, AND IRRIGATION SYSTEMS TO SUSTAIN PLANT HEALTH. SITE IMPROVEMENTS, SECURITY MEASURES, AND WASTE MANAGEMENT ENSURE THE GARDEN'S LONGEVITY, WHILE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS, INCLUDING WORKSHOPS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, MAKE THE GARDEN AN INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FOR ALL VISITORS.
