THE BETTER BOX FROM WELLFARE IS THE FIRST FREE FOOD PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY FOCUSED ON PREMIUM, FUNCTIONAL AND NUTRITIOUS PACKAGED GROCERIES. EACH BETTER BOX INCLUDES OVER $200 WORTH OF LOW-SUGAR, LOW-SALT AND LOW-FAT PRODUCTS LIKE PLANT-BASED MILK, NUTRITION BARS, ZERO-SUGAR SELTZERS AND PROTEIN-PACKED PASTA DONATED FROM WELLFARES GROWING ROSTER OF BRAND PARTNERS. EVERY MONTH, ENROLLED FAMILIES PICK UP THEIR FREE BETTER BOX FROM A CONVENIENT POPUP DISTRIBUTION OUTPOST IN THE COMMUNITY NO LONG LINE REQUIRED. WHERE THE MAJORITY OF FOOD BANKS AND OTHER NONPROFITS FOCUS ALMOST ENTIRELY ON PRODUCE, WELLFARE IS MEETING A GROWING NEED FOR CONVENIENT NUTRITION AND BETTER-FOR-YOU ALTERNATIVES IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES. THE BETTER BOX IS A PRACTICAL, EFFICIENT AND DIGNIFIED APPROACH TO NOURISHING FOOD-INSECURE FAMILIES, AND IS THE FIRST STEP IN WELLFARES FIGHT AGAINST FOOD INSECURITY.THE BETTER BOX IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TO FAMILIES LIVING IN SELECT NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS IN BROOKLYN AND EAST HARLEM. AS OF THE END OF JULY, 2,422 PEOPLE ACROSS 872 HOUSEHOLDS ARE SUBSCRIBED TO THE BETTER BOX.SINCE LAUNCHING IN FEBRUARY OF 2021, WE HAVE PROCURED AND DELIVERED OVER 600,000 PRODUCTS WORTH OVER $2.5 MILLION DOLLARS. ON AVERAGE, OUR PRODUCTS FEATURE 70% LESS SUGAR.
