Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DONATIONS FOR LIFE (MED4LIFE) - NEW LEAF ETHIOPIA FOUNDATION (NLEF) COLLECTS AND SHIPS USED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO THE AMHARA REGION, THE POOREST STATE IN ETHIOPIA, WHERE IT IS DISTRIBUTED TO HOSPITALS AND CLINICS. THIS INCLUDES STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND BASIC TOOLS SUCH AS STETHOSCOPES, BLOOD PRESSURE CUFFS, FUNCTIONING INCUBATORS, X-RAY MACHINES, OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS, MICROSCOPES, AND REFRIGERATION UNITS. ONLY QUALITY, FUNCTIONING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND OTHER APPROPRIATE ITEMS ARE SENT TO ETHIOPIA. ITEMS SUCH AS DONATED SHOES, EYEGLASSES, CLOTHING, AND SANITARY HYGIENE KITS ARE ADDED TO THE SHIPPING CONTAINERS BECAUSE THESE BASIC NECESSITIES ARE NEEDED IN AMHARA AS WELL. THE CONTENTS OF THESE CONTAINERS ARE DESIGNATED 'HUMANITARIAN DONATIONS' BY THE ETHIOPIAN GOVERNMENT.

SANITARY NAPKIN ACCESS PROJECT (SNAP) - NLEF DISTRIBUTES REUSABLE SANITARY HYGIENE KITS TO IMPOVERISHED GIRLS AND WOMEN IN ETHIOPIA. EACH KIT COMES IN A STURDY FABRIC BAG CONTAINING TWO PAIRS OF UNDERWEAR, EIGHT WASHABLE FABRIC PADS AND TWO WATERPROOF SHIELDS TO HOLD THE PADS IN PLACE, ALONG WITH SOAP AND TWO PLASTIC BAGS FOR STORING AND WASHING SOILED PADS. IN CONTRAST TO COMMERCIAL DISPOSABLE SANITARY PRODUCTS, THESE KITS ARE INEXPENSIVE, ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY, AND LONG-LASTING - REMAINING USEFUL FOR ONE OR MORE YEARS. IN ADDITION TO BENEFITING THE RECIPIENTS OF THE SNAP HYGIENE KITS, THIS PROJECT ALSO PROVIDES TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT FOR THE WOMEN WHO PRODUCE THEM -- A TOTAL OF 50 SEAMSTRESSES AT SCALE.
