Part 3 - Line 4a
FOOD AND ESSENTIAL ITEM DISTRIBUTION - LA COSECHA'S PRIMARY PROGRAM ADDRESSES FOOD INSECURITY, MAINLY ON THE EAST SIDE OF TULSA IN AN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITY. THE POVERTY RATE IN THIS COMMUNITY IS 26% OR 1.4 TIMES THE RATE IN THE CITY OF TULSA AND NEARLY DOUBLE THE RATE OF TULSA COUNTY. ADULT SPANISH SPEAKERS IN THE HOME ARE 53% OF THE POPULATION. LA COSECHA IS A BILINGUAL ORGANIZATION (SPANISH/ENGLISH) SIMILAR TO MANY OF THE POPULATION SERVED. EACH THURSDAY, LA COSECHA DISTRIBUTES APPROXIMATELY 800 BOXES OF HEALTHY FOOD TO 4,000 CLIENTS WEEKLY. THE ORGANIZATION HAS SURVEYED CLIENTS AND FOUND THAT 100% OF CLIENTS LIVE IN POVERTY, AND APPROXIMATELY 68% ARE HISPANIC. ADDITIONALLY, LA COSECHA FOUND THAT CLIENTS COLLECTING FOOD REPRESENTED FAMILIES WITH AN AVERAGE OF FIVE MEMBERS (TWO ADULTS/THREE CHILDREN). THE DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM WAS SUPPORTED BY 1,820 VOLUNTEERS, MANY RE-OCCURRING VOLUNTEERS, WHO COLLECTIVELY CONTRIBUTED APPROXIMATELY 7,080 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE. MANY VOLUNTEERS WERE PAST CLIENTS. PAST CLIENTS HAVE ALSO BECOME EMPLOYEES, AND ONE EVEN SITS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THE FOOD AND ESSENTIAL ITEMS DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM MADE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY BY ADDRESSING INCOME INEQUALITY AND PROVIDING HEALTHY FOOD TO FAMILY MEMBERS, INCLUDING CHILDREN.
COVID-19 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - WE PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS TO HELP COVER BASIC EXPENSES SUCH AS RENT, UTILITIES, AND FINANCIAL EMERGENCIES. THROUGH OUR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, WE WERE ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE A TOTAL OF $212,100 TO ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS IN THE TULSA COUNTY REGION. THIS SUPPORT HELPED TO ALLEVIATE FINANCIAL STRESS AND PROVIDED A CRUCIAL LIFELINE FOR MANY INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO WERE STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET. FURTHER, WE PARTNERED WITH THE CITY OF TULSA AND HOSTED AN EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE EVENT WHERE WE DISTRIBUTED $1,000,000 PAID TO RENT AND BILLS OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT ATTENDED THAT DAY.
