THE ANDERSON ARROYO FOUNDATION'S FIRST PROJECT IS THE SONORAN DESERT SANCTUARY. THE SONORAN DESERT SANCTUARY IS A 300 ACRE PROPERTY, FORMERLY A MINING OPERATION, THAT WILL BE RESTORED THROUGH PERMACULTURE. IT WILL EVENTUALLY CONSIST OF A WILDERNESS RETREAT CENTER, BOTANICAL GARDEN, AND SUSTAINABLE FARM. THE SONORAN DESERT SANCTUARY WILL TAKE THREE YEARS TO BUILD BEFORE WE OPEN THE RETREAT CENTER TO VETERANS IN 2023. IN 2021 WE CONTINUED THE WORK ON THE LAND NEEDED BEFORE OUR FIRST RETREAT CAMPGROUND COULD BE BUILT. THE REMAINDER OF THE LANDSCAPE WAS CLEARED OF TRASH AND DEBRIS LEFT OVER BY THE PREVIOUS MINING COMPANY. THE EXTERIOR OF THE MAIN WORKSHOP, INCLUDING THE ROOF, WAS REPAIRED. THE CAMPGROUND ROAD WAS COMPLETED, AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE LEADING TO THE CAMPGROUND WAS UPDATED. THIS WORK WAS DONE WITH GENEROUS IN-KIND DONATIONS OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND VOLUNTEER LABOR.
