PROJECT I SEE YOU IS A WOMEN-POWERED MOVEMENT THAT EXISTS TO SEE WOMEN TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LIVES. WE IMPLEMENT THIS THROUGH COMMUNITY BUILDING AND FINANCIAL RESOURCING IN BOTH THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND DENVER, COLORADO.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
SHARED POWER INITIATIVE WAS A PROGRAM CREATED IN 2020 IN RESPONSE TO THE FINANCIAL STRESS THAT COVID 19 CAUSED, ESPECIALLY IN TARGETED AREAS THAT WERE MOST AFFECTED FINANCIALLY AND POPULATIONS OF UNDERSERVED WOMEN OF COLOR. WE CREATED THE SHARED POWER INITIATIVE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE GRANTS TO THESE WOMEN'S SMALL BUSINESSES OR TO GRANT FUNDS NEEDED FOR THE PURCHASE A HOME. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES FINANCIAL GRANTS, BUT ALSO SUPPORT AND EDUCATION AROUND HOME AND BUSINESS OWNERSHIP, FINANCES AND BUDGETING. EACH GRANTEE IS PART OF A COHORT THAT MEETS REGULARLY FOR THE SHARING OF IDEAS, QUESTIONS AND CONTINUING EDUCATION. PROJECT I SEE YOU ALSO PROVIDES VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH NEEDED REPAIRS, COUNSELING AND MANY OTHER SUPPORT SERVICES AROUND HOME AND BUSINESS OWNERSHIP. OUR FIRST VIRTUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN HELD IN NOVEMBER 2020 PRESENTED THE SHARED POWER INITIATIVE AND ENCOURAGED SUPPORTERS TO CREATE A TEAM, WHEREBY THEY WOULD COMMIT TO RAISING $10,000, POTENTIALLY FOR 1 GRANT SCHOLARSHIP. OUR GOAL WAS TO RAISE A TOTAL OF $100,000 IN 2021 IN ORDER TO AWARD UP TO 10 GRANTS. WE RAISED A PORTION OF THE FUNDS IN 2020 WITH THE GOAL OF COMPLETING FUNDING AND AWARDING GRANTS IN LATE 2021. A FORMAL POLICY WAS WRITTEN TO ESTABLISH THE CRITERIA FOR GRANT RECIPIENTS AND AN APPLICATION PROCESS WAS PUT INTO PLACE. A COMMITTEE WAS FORMED TO REVIEW AND DETERMINE THE ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS BASED ON THE CRITERIA IN THE SHARED POWER POLICY. WE CONTINUED TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THESE GRANTS IN 2021 TOTALING AN ADDITIONAL $143,700. OVER $30,000 WAS GRANTED IN 2021 WITH THE CONTINUATION OF THE GRANTS INTO 2022.
CENTRO TE VEO IS A WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT CENTER IN LA VICTORIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. IT RUNS AND OPERATES A CAFETERIA, EDUCATIONAL AND OCCUPATIONAL CLASSES, AND SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE LEADERSHIP ON THE GROUND THERE. SOME OF THE OCCUPATIONAL CLASSES INCLUDED MAKING COVID-19 PREVENTATIVE SUPPLIES FOR THE CENTER AND THE COMMUNITY.
