Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE BRIGHT GRANTS PROGRAM PROVIDES 500 GRANTS TO FAMILIES DOUBLY IMPACTED BY A PARENT'S CANCER AND FINANCIAL NEED. PARENTS WITH CANCER OFTEN FACE AN OVERWHELMING FINANCIAL BURDEN, WHETHER IT IS THE NEED TO STOP OR REDUCE WORK, PAYING FOR EXTRA CHILDCARE TO ACCOMMODATE DOCTORS' APPOINTMENTS, OR THE MEDICAL BILLS THEMSELVES, CANCER IS EXPENSIVE. IN 2022 WE AWARDED 224 FAMILIES A BRIGHT GRANT.

VIRTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS: WE RUN MONTHLY VIRTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS: ACTIVE TREATMENT AND EARLY SURVIVORSHIP, LIVING WITH STAGE IV CANCER, AND PARTNER SUPPORT. LED BY PROFESSIONAL FACILITATORS, THESE GROUPS CREATE A SUPPORTIVE AND WELCOMING COMMUNITY AMONG PARENTS AND PARTNERS DEALING WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS, A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN SHARE, LISTEN, AND CONNECT WITH OTHERS WHO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH, HELPING THEM FEEL LESS ISOLATED.

THE BRIGHT READS PROGRAM PROVIDES FAMILIES WITH FREE AGE-APPROPRIATE BOOKS ON CANCER, ILLNESS, FEELINGS, GRIEF AND LOSS. IN ADDITION TO THE BOOK REQUESTS BY EACH FAMILY, WE ALSO SEND A COPY OF A TINY BOAT AT SEA, AN AGE-APPROPRIATE RESOURCE FOR HOW TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT CANCER. READING TOGETHER CAN BE A MEANINGFUL PLACE OF RECONNECTION WHEN THE CHAOS OF DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS, TREATMENTS, AND UNANSWERED QUESTIONS LOOM LARGE. THESE BOOKS HAVE ALL BEEN VETTED BY STAFF AND OTHER PARENTS WITH CANCER. IN 2022 WE PROVIDED 477 FAMILIES WITH BRIGHT READS BOOKS.

A BRIGHT BOX IS A BOX OF ART PROJECTS REQUESTED WHEN A PARENT OR CAREGIVER IS RECOVERING FROM TREATMENT OR SURGERY. EACH BOX CONTAINS SIX SIMPLE ART PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR A PARENT OR CAREGIVER WHO IS RECOVERING FROM CANCER TREATMENT OR SURGERY. THESE PROJECTS ARE SIMPLE BUT ENGAGING, CREATED TO KEEP KIDS BUSY WHILE A PARENT IS RESTING OR AN EASY ACTIVITY THAT ALLOWS FOR QUALITY TIME BETWEEN A CAREGIVER AND CHILD. IN 2022 WE PROVIDED 733 FAMILIES WITH A BRIGHT BOX.
