HEALTHY FOOD/EQUITY INITIATIVE: OUR SIGNATURE FOOD EQUITY PROGRAM AIMS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE HEALTHY FOODS THROUGH WEEKLY FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS REACHING 12,800 RESIDENTS ANNUALLY. IN ADDITION TO FOOD ACCESS, THE PROGRAM INCLUDES ROBUST EDUCATION COMPONENTS, WITH AN AVERAGE OF 50 FAMILIES PARTICIPATING IN NUTRITION EDUCATION WORKSHOPS AND THE FOOD AS MEDICINE INITIATIVE, WHICH EMPHASIZES THE ROLE OF DIET IN PREVENTING AND MANAGING HEALTH CONDITIONS. THE PROGRAM ADDRESSES FOOD INSECURITY AND EMPOWERS FAMILIES TO MAKE HEALTHIER FOOD CHOICES.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SUPPORTS AFRICAN-AMERICAN IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE YOUTH, AGES 14-26, BY FOCUSING ON EDUCATION, JOB SKILLS, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND MENTORSHIP TO BREAK INTERGENERATIONAL POVERTY AND ENHANCE INTEGRATION. IN 2023, THE PROGRAM EXPANDED TO SERVE OVER 30 YOUTHS ACROSS MONTGOMERY AND BALTIMORE COUNTIES. THROUGH CAREER READINESS WORKSHOPS, FINANCIAL LITERACY SESSIONS, AND COLLEGE PREPARATION SUPPORT, PARTICIPANTS GAINED CRUCIAL SKILLS FOR THEIR FUTURE. THE PROGRAM EMPOWERS YOUTH WITH RESOURCES TO NAVIGATE EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, AND FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE SUCCESSFULLY.
