Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

THE SFC IS ORGANIZED AROUND CONNECTING FOSTER FAMILIES AND ADOPTERS IN THE FREDERICKSBURG AREA AND BEYOND WITH DOGS AND CATS WHO HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES IN A SHELTER. VIRGINIA IS A REGIONAL LEADER IN THE NO-KILL MOVEMENT, BUT WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TO REACH THE NATIONAL GOAL OF "NO-KILL 2025." WE HOPE TO PLAY A ROLE IN HELPING THE STATE ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN A 90% LIVE RELEASE RATE BY TRANSFERRING IN ANIMALS FROM UNDER SERVED COUNTY SHELTERS AND OTHER RESCUES THAT WORK DIRECTLY WITH THESE SHELTERS AND FINDING THEM HOMES IN OUR AREA. WE ARE A FOSTER-BASED RESCUE, WHICH MEANS THAT ANIMALS IN OUR CARE REMAIN IN FOSTER HOMES UNTIL THEY ARE ADOPTED. THE SFC IS COMMITTED TO OPEN, LOW-BARRIER ADOPTIONS, WHICH MEANS THAT IN MOST CASES, OUR PETS CAN BE ADOPTED DIRECTLY FROM THE FOSTER PARENT OR AT AN ADOPTION EVENT AFTER A MEET-AND-GREET TO ENSURE THEY ARE A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR FAMILY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

INTAKE AND ADOPTION PROGRAM: SFC VIRGINIA TOOK IN 1818 DOGS AND CATS THROUGHOUT 2022, LARGELY FROM SHELTERS ACROSS VIRGINIA. OF THESE, WE FOUND FAMILIES FOR 1757 OF THEM AND STILL HAD NEARLY 200 LEFT IN CARE AT THE END OF THE YEAR. DESPITE THE ONGOING COVID ENVIRONMENT, THE NUMBER OF FOSTER PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS ENGAGED IN OUR PROGRAMS STAYED RELATIVELY STEADY OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR AND SHOWED VERSATILITY AND FLEXIBILITY AS WE ADJUSTED TO THE WORLD REOPENING AND CONSTANT CHANGES TO WORK SCHEDULES. OUR ADOPTION AND INTAKE NUMBERS CONTINUED TO EXCEED EXPECTATIONS FOR THE YEAR AND WE HOPE TO CONTINUE THIS INTO NEXT YEAR. THE EXPENSES NOTED FOR THE ADOPTION PROGRAM INCLUDE GENERAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES AND DO NOT INCLUDE MEDICAL EXPENSES (SEE NEXT PROGRAM).

OUR ADOPTED ANIMALS RECEIVE VACCINATIONS AND PREVENTATIVE TREATMENTS AND ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED AND MICROCHIPPED PRIOR TO THE TIME OF ADOPTION. IN 2022, WITH THE HELP OF OUR VET PARTNERS, WE TOOK IN 1818 ANIMALS AND PROVIDED THEM WITH THEIR CORE VACCINATIONS AND BASIC (AND OCCASIONALLY EMERGENT) MEDICAL CARE INCLUDING SPAY/NEUTER.

SFC VOLUNTEERS, STAFF AND VEHICLES SERVED AS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR THE MAJORITY OF OUR INCOMING ANIMALS FROM SHELTERS OR MEETING POINTS THROUGH VA. WE SPEND BETWEEN 10-25 HOURS A WEEK DRIVING PETS FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THE STATE, AND FREQUENTLY COLLABORATE WITH OTHER VA RESCUES TO PICK UP AND DROP OFF THEIR INCOMING ANIMALS AS WELL IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE MORE LIVES AND ENABLE SMALLER RESCUES WITHOUT A TRANSPORTATION TEAM OR VEHICLE TO BE ABLE TO ALSO HELP OUR PARTNER SHELTERS. THE EXPENSES ACCRUED IN THIS CATEGORY INCLUDE GASOLINE EXPENSES FOR THE YEAR.
