SUSTAINABLE EMPOWERMENT FOR YOUTH INTERNATIONAL (SEFY) IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO SERVE, EDUCATE AND EMPOWER POOR AND UNDERSERVED YOUTH WITH A QUOTA ON WOMEN AND REFUGEES USING SUSTAINABILITY & INNOVATION AS TOOLS TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY, BUILD RESILIENCE AMONG PEOPLE AND WORK TOWARDS A PROSPEROUS FUTURE.

2021 PROJECTS: COVID RESPONSE: SEFY RECEIVED A GRANT FROM GIZ/CONTRA TO SUPPORT A PROJECT TO ALLEVIATE THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON VULNERABLE FAMILIES, INDIVIDUALS AND MUNICIPALITIES AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC. THE PROJECT SOUGHT TO INCREASE THE FINANCIAL MEANS OF VULNERABLE LEBANESE AND DISPLACED SYRIANS THROUGH THE TRANSFORMATION OF MUNICIPAL VOLUNTEERING TO SHORT-TERM JOBS AND TO SUPPORT 25 PARTNER MUNICIPALITIES OF THE CONTRA PROGRAM IN CARRYING OUT COVID-19 RESPONSE. OUR ROLE WAS TO A) REVIEW, VERIFY AND REVISE THE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS FROM MUNICIPALITIES AND MUNICIPAL WORKERS; B) ARRANGE AND MANAGE PAYMENTS FROM THE PROJECT IN COORDINATION WITH THE MUNICIPALITIES; C) REPORT TO GIZ ON THE PROCESS. BEIRUT BLAST RESPONSE: ON AUGUST 4 2020, A MASSIVE EXPLOSION DEVASTATED LARGE PARTS OF THE LEBANESE CAPITAL. OVER 300,000 PEOPLE LOST THEIR HOMES, BUSINESSES WERE DESTROYED AND THE BLAST CAUSED AN ESTIMATED US$15 BILLION IN DAMAGES. SEFY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AND UNDER A GRANT PROVIDED BY GIZ/CONTRA, WORKED ON ALLEVIATING THE SITUATION BY PROVIDING EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO VULNERABLE FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY THE EXPLOSION. THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF BLAST RESPONSE WAS TO IMPROVE THE LIVELIHOOD SITUATION OF VULNERABLE LEBANESE AND DISPLACED SYRIANS. THE INITIATIVE ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES: 1. PROVIDE SHORT-TERM INCOME TO 500 VULNERABLE LEBANESE AND DISPLACED SYRIANS AND PALESTINIANS THROUGH A CASH-FOR-WORK APPROACH (40 DAYS) 2. IMPROVE THE LIVING SITUATION OF VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS IN THE AFFECTED AREAS BY REHABILITATING THEIR HOUSES, CLEANING THE AREAS, DISTRIBUTING BASIC SUPPLIES, ETC. SEFY CREATED 500 SHORT-TERM CASH FOR WORK (CFW) EMPLOYMENTS FOR CLEANING STREETS AND PUBLIC SPACES, CONDUCTING ASSESSMENTS, MINOR RENOVATING OF DAMAGED HOUSES, DISTRIBUTING BASIC LIFE NECESSITIES AND FULFILLING BASIC NEEDS.
