F.I.R.S.T. (FOR INSPIRATION AND RECOGNITION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY) PRESENTS AN ENGINEERING CHALLENGE TO HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS WHERE STUDENTS BUILD ROBOTS FOR COMPETITION. IN 2022, REGIONAL EVENTS RETURNED TO IN- PERSON COMPETITION PLAY. FORTY-TWO TEAMS REGISTERED TO PARTICIPATE IN TRADITIONALLY JUDGED AWARDS AND ROBOT CHALLENGES. ARIZONA HOSTED TWO IN-PERSON EVENTS, AZ NORTH AT NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY IN FLAGSTAFF AND AZ VALLEY AT CHAPARRAL HIGH SCHOOL IN SCOTTSDALE. WINNERS OF THIS EVENT ADVANCED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN HOUSTON, TX, AND BROADCASTED WORLDWIDE IN APRIL. THE TEAMS LEARN PROGRAMMING, ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, FUNDRAISING, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND OTHER WORK- FORCE DEVELOPMENT SKILLS. IN ADDITION TO FIRST TEAMS, VEX ROBOTICS
DURING THE TAX YEAR TWO $2,000 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO FIVE STUDENTS, ONE $2,000 SCHOLARSHIP WAS AWARDED TO 1 STUDENT; THREE $500 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO ONE STUDENT AND TWO $500 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO THREE STUDENTS. THESE STUDENTS WERE ALL AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND PARTICIPATION IN THE FIRST ROBOTICS REGIONAL EVENT.
