WATERSHED PROGRAM EDUCATION AND SUPPORT MATERIALS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EDUCATION EFFORTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO ACCELERATING WATERSHED REHABILITATION IMPLEMENTATION. TO ADDRESS AND SUPPORT THIS EFFORT, NWC WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO SPONSORS AND NRCS EMPLOYEES ON NRCS ASSISTED WATERSHED PROJECTS UTILIZING FACT SHEETS IN PRINT, WEBSITE, AND ELECTRONIC FORMATS. EIGHT FACT SHEETS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED: (1) USDA-ARS DEVELOPING PREDICTION TOOLS FOR EMBANKMENT BREACH PROCESSES; (2) ELKWATER FORK DAM WATER SUPPLY; (3) OKLAHOMA WATERSHED DAM PROVIDES MULTIPLE BENEFITS; (4) GRAND PRAIRIE IRRIGATION PROJECT GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY; (5) OKLAHOMA TOWN DEPENDS ON WATERSHED LAKE FOR WATER SUPPLY; (6); IMPROVING THE WATER QUALITY OF THE WEST FORK OF THE WHITE RIVER AND BEAVER LAKE; (7) OKLAHOMA CORRUGATED METAL PIPE PILOT PROJECT; AND (8) GERING VALLEY DRAIN PROJECT-NEBRASKA. FOUR WEBINARS WERE CONDUCTED: 1) PUBLIC LAW 566 WATERSHED PROGRAM UTILIZATION & FEEDBACK-EAST ON MAY 12, 2021; 2) PUBLIC LAW 566 WATERSHED PROGRAM UTILIZATION & FEEDBACK-WEST ON MAY 13, 2021; 3) BUILDING CAPACITY & EFFECTIVENESS IN YOUR BOARD AND STAFF ON JUNE 17, 2021; AND 4) 7 PRINCIPLES FOR SELLING CONSERVATION ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2021. THE NWC CONDUCTED A VIRTUAL ANNUAL MEETING ON NOVEMBER 16-17, 2021. THE WEBINARS AND ANNUAL MEETING SESSIONS WERE RECORDED AND MADE AVAILABLE VIA THE WEBSITE AND THE NWC YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
DIRECT ASSISTANCE/CONSULTATION TO NRCS AND WATERSHED PROGRAM SPONSORS CONSULTING SESSIONS WERE HELD WITH WATERSHED PROGRAM LEADERS IN NEW MEXICO, SOUTH CAROLINA, OREGON, MASSACHUSETTS, INDIANA, WASHINGTON, KENTUCKY, KANSAS, WEST VIRGINIA, VIRGINIA, MISSOURI, MISSISSIPPI, ARKANSAS, TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA ON THE TOPICS OF REHABILITATION, REPAIRS, REMEDIATION AND PROJECT LIFE. WATERSHED PROGRAM RELATED BRIEFING AND CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD WITH NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CONSERVATION DISTRICTS (NACD), NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE CONSERVATION AGENCIES (NASCA), AND NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE (NRCS).
MEDIA AND INFORMATION OUTREACH UPDATED THE FOLLOWING PUBLICATION: 1) IDENTIFYING AND PRIORITIZING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE NEEDS OF NRCS-ASSISTED FLOOD CONTROL DAMS; 2) WATERSHED PROTECTION AND FLOOD PREVENTION PROGRAM- KEEPING PEOPLE SAFE, PROTECTING PROPERTY AND 3) CREATING JOBS AND WATERSHED PROJECTS - HELPING COMMUNITIES SOLVE NATURAL RESOURCES ISSUES.
