WE ADVOCATE DEALING WITH NATURAL RESOURCE PROBLEMS AND ISSUES USING THE WATERSHED AS THE PLANNING AND OPERATIONAL UNIT. WE REPRESENT THE NEEDS OF WATERSHED PROJECT SPONSORS.

WATERSHED PROGRAM EDUCATION AND SUPPORT MATERIALS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EDUCATION EFFORTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO ACCELERATING WATERSHED REHABILITATION IMPLEMENTATION. TO ADDRESS AND SUPPORT THIS EFFORT, NWC WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO SPONSORS AND NRCS EMPLOYEES ON NRCS ASSISTED WATERSHED PROJECTS UTILIZING FACT SHEETS IN PRINT, WEBSITE, AND ELECTRONIC FORMATS. TWO NEW FACT SHEETS WERE PUBLISHED: 1) DEVELOPING WATERSHED REPORTS FOR PROJECT SPONSORS, 2) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF DAMS - SAFETY IN THE FIELD. A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP, WATERSHED DAM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE BASICS WAS PRESENTED IN DECATUR TX WITH 110 PARTICIPANTS. THE NWC BI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN SALT LAKE CITY UT.
DIRECT ASSISTANCE/CONSULTATION TO NRCS AND WATERSHED PROGRAM SPONSORS CONSULTING SESSIONS WERE HELD WITH WATERSHED PROGRAM LEADERS IN NEW MEXICO, SOUTH CAROLINA, OREGON, MASSACHUSETTS, INDIANA, UTAH, WASHINGTON, KENTUCKY, KANSAS, WEST VIRGINIA, VIRGINIA, MISSOURI, MISSISSIPPI, ARKANSAS, TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA ON THE TOPICS OF REHABILITATION, REPAIRS, REMEDIATION AND PROJECT LIFE. WATERSHED PROGRAM RELATED BRIEFING AND CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD WITH NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CONSERVATION DISTRICTS (NACD), NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE CONSERVATION AGENCIES (NASCA), AND NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE (NRCS).
MEDIA AND INFORMATION OUTREACH PUBLISHED THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES: 1) AOWA CREEK WATERSHED PROJECT PROVIDES FLOOD CONTROL AND RECREATIONAL AREAS- NEBRASKA; 2) EWP ASSISTANCE AFTER HURRICANE HARVEY- TEXAS; 3) COBB CREEK WATERSHED DAM NO. 1 - OKLAHOMA; 4) MILLSITE DAM REHABILITATION PROJECT - UTAH; 5) LOWER GUNNISON RIVER BASIN RCPP - COLORADO; 6) ALASKA EWP SUCCESS STORIESMILLSITE DAM REHABILITATION PROJECT - UTAH; 7) FIRST IN THE NATION WATERSHED DAM CELEBRATES 75 YEARS; 8) NEBRASKA WATERSHED PROJECT REDUCES FLOOD DAMAGES BY $700,000 IN MAY 2023; AND 9) NORTH UNIT IRRIGATION DISTRICT INFRASTRUCTURE MODERNIZATION PROJECT - OREGON.
