THE ETHNIC SELF-HELP PROGRAM HAS BEEN ABLE TO FACILITATE PROGRAMS IN THE METRO DETROIT AREA TO HELP RECENTLY ARRIVED REFUGEES, PARTICULARLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN, ASSIMILATE INTO AMERICA. THIS HAS BEEN DONE THROUGH THE USE OF CASE MANAGERS THAT HAVE HELPED OVER 300 REFUGEES MEET THEIR BASIC PHYSICAL NEEDS, DEVELOP THEIR ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE SKILLS, BEGIN AND WORK THROUGH THE CITIZENSHIP PROCESS, NAVIGATE THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES LANDSCAPE, AND SEEK LEGAL REPRESENTATION. THE PROGRAM HAS HELPED OVER 300 FAMILIES IN THE METROPOLITAN DETROIT AEA.
THE CHRISTMAS GIFT PROGRAM USED CONTRIBUTIONS TO HELP ENSURE THAT THE CHILDREN OF REFUGEE AND ASYLEE FAMILIES HAD GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS. THE PROGRAM HELPED 20 FAMILIES.
