IEP COLLABORATIVE INC. IEPC SEEKS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL BY SECURING APPROPRIATE SPECIAL EDUCATION SPED PROGRAMMING-ONE CHILD AT A TIME. OUR SERVICES ARE FREE AND INCLUDE ATTORNEY-PRESENTED SPED RIGHTS WORKSHOPS SPED LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY AND LEGAL SERVICES INCLUDING LEGAL CLINICS OFFERING ADVICE AND COUNSEL LIMITED SCOPE DIRECT REPRESENTATION OFFERING APPEARANCE AT SPED MEETINGS AND EXTENDED REPRESENTATION IN LEGAL PROCEEDINGS ON BEHALF OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IF DETERMINED NECESSARY. WE STRIVE TO ENSURE THAT OUR CLIENTS HAVE ACCESS TO APPROPRIATE AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES. THOSE EQUIPPED WITH A LEGALLY INFORMED APPROACH ARE BETTER ABLE TO SECURE APPROPRIATE IEP AND SECTION 504 SERVICES AND IMPROVE LONG-TERM OUTCOMES AND QUALITY OF LIFE WHILE CULTIVATING STRONGER AND MORE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES.

CALIFORNIA STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE OUR FREE LEGAL SERVICES IRRESPECTIVE OF FAMILY INCOME. 55 FAMILIES AND 57 STUDENTS SOUGHT ACCESS TO OUR LEGAL SERVICES IN 2021. SURVEYS SHOWED CLIENTS GAINED ACCESS TO SERVICES AND CONFIDENCE NAVIGATING THE SPECIAL EDUCATION SYSTEM. WHILE OUR FREE LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM DOES NOT MAINTAIN INCOME ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS OUR 2021 SERVICES ADDRESSED THE FACT THAT THE DENIAL OF FAPE FREE AND APPROPRIATE PUBLIC EDUCATION IS DISPROPORTIONATE. AS SELF- REPORTED ON INTAKE AT LEAST 62% ARE LOW-INCOME; 62% SELF-IDENTIFY AS PEOPLE OF COLOR AND 31% ARE FAMILIES HEADED BY CAREGIVERS AGED 55 -72.?
IEPC DELIVERED 4 EDUCATION RIGHTS PRESENTATIONS IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA IN 2021 FOCUSED ON EMPOWERING STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO BETTER ACCESS THEIR EDUCATION AND SERVICES DURING THE COVI-19 PANDEMIC. THE PROGRAMS WERE ATTENDED BY A COMBINED 37 INDIVIDUALS.
IEPC MAKES THE ANNUAL 501H ELECTION TO ALLOW UP TO 20% OF EXPENDITURES ON LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY. IN 2021 IEPC PARTICIPATED IN MINOR LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY SEEKING AND OR SUPPORTING: 1 EXPANDED ACCESS TO RETENTION FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES THAT COULD NOT ACCESS THEIR EDUCATION DURING THE PANDEMIC; 2 SOLUTIONS TO THE INDEPENDENT STUDY CHALLENGES FOR CALIFORNIA STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH ANALYSIS OF AB 130 STRATEGIES; AND 3 SB 682 ADDRESSING RACIAL DISPARITY IN CHILDHOOD CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS.
