WE ADVOCATE FOR A MORE EQUITABLE AND JUST FOOD SYSTEM IN GREATER NEW HAVEN. WE PROVIDE FOOD, CLOTHING AND ACCESS TO SERVICES THAT MEET NEIGHBORS' BASIC NEEDS SO THAT THEY HAVE GREATER AGENCY IN MAKING PERSONAL FINANCE DECISIONS. WE OFFER CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD THAT REFLECTS OUR NEIGHBORS' PREFERENCES. WE CREATE A WELCOMING SHOPPING ENVIRONMENT WHERE OUR NEIGHBORS CHOOSE SEASONALLY APPROPRIATE CLOTHING THAT BEST SUITS THEIR NEEDS. WE OFFER A WIDE ARRAY OF NUTRITIOUS, CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE FOOD THAT CAN INCLUDE FRESH PRODUCE, MEAT, EGGS, BREAD, AND CANNED GOODS. WE STRIVE TO OFFER THE SAME AMOUNT OF FOOD TO EVERYONE FROM THE FIRST PERSON THROUGH THE DOOR TO LAST. OUR FOOD IS SOURCED THROUGH THE CONNECTICUT FOOD BANK, LOCAL FARMS, GROCERS, DISTRIBUTORS, AND GARDENERS.
WE OFFER HIGH QUALITY, SEASONALLY SUITABLE CLOTHING. MANY OF OUR NEIGHBORS RELY ON THIS CLOTHING, ESPECIALLY DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER TO STAY WARM AND DRY. ALL OF OUR CLOTHING COMES FROM DONATIONS FROM COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS.
WE OFFER A SAFE AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR NEIGHBORS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS. OUR NEIGHBORS ARE INVITED TO SHARE OUR SPACE, HOSPITALITY, AND OUR FACILITIES DURING OUR HOURS OF OPERATION. WE ALSO HOUSE THE NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH PROJECT FROM YALE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, WHICH OFFERS HEALTH SCREENINGS TO OUR ANY OF OUR NEIGHBORS WHO NEED THEM. IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR NEW PROGRAM, SWAP, WE HAVE A COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER WHO WORKS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS DISTRIBUTING INFORMATION ON OTHER RESOURCES IN NEW HAVEN. WE ALSO PARTNER WITH OTHER GROUPS LIKE PROJECT PERIOD, WHO PROVIDES MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS, THE KENNEDY CENTER, WHO SIGN FOLKS UP FOR REDUCED RATE DISABILITY BUS PASSES, AND PAWS, WHO PROVIDES FREE FOOT CARE, SHOES, AND SOCKS. THE FOOD AND CLOTHING THAT WE OFFER OUR NEIGHBORS MEET THEIR IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND WE STRIVE TO CONNECT OUR NEIGHBORS TO OTHER SERVICES THAT CAN HELP THEM BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY.
