TO PROVIDE SURVIVORS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION WITH THE RESOURCES AND SUPPORT NEEDED TO ATTAIN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT.

SURVIVORS TO ENTREPRENEURS (TRAUMA INFORMED EMPLOYMENT): S2E LOWERS BARRIERS FOR SURVIVORS OF TRAFFICKING TO (RE)ENTER THE WORKFORCE THROUGH A WAGE SUBSIDY PROGRAM INVOLVING SMALL BUSINESSES. THE SUBSIDY PROVIDES A WAGE REIMBURSEMENT DIRECTLY TO THE EMPLOYER OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS AS A HIRING INCUDEMENT. S2E DEVELOPS WORKPLACE SKILLS AND PROVIDES ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORSHIP FOR THE CREATION OF SURVIVOR-OWNED BUSINESSES. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES JOB SKILLS EDUCATION AND TRAINING, JOB COACHING AND INTENSIVE COMMUNITY BASED TREATMENT (THREE PERSON TEAM). IN 2021, 26 SURVIVORS OF TRAFFICKING WERE EMPLOYED THROUGH OUR SURVIVORS TO ENTREPRENEURS PROGRAM EARNING ABOVE MINIMUM WAGE AT HAMPTON ROADS-BASED BUSINESSES. WE VETTED AND PROVIDED TRAUMA INFORMED TRAINING TO 59 SMALL BUSINESS WORKSITE PARTNERS. WE PROVIDED 2,319 UNITS OF EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE (JOB COACHING) AND 1,397 UNITS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORSHIP. 19 PARTICIPANTS COMPLETED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATIONS. 9 OF THE 26 SURVIVORS TO ENTREPRENEURS PARTICIPANTS OPENED THEIR OWN BUSINESSES AS SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME TO THEIR EXISTING GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT. 80 PERCENT ARE STILL EMPLOYED AND EARNING ABOVE MINIMUM WAGE (21 OUT OF 26) WITH 20 PERCENT EARNING ABOVE LMI.


CRISIS SHELTER: PROVIDES SHORT-TERM, ENTIRE-PLACE AIRBNBS TO SURVIVORS UPON RESCUE OR ESCAPE FROM THE TRAFFICKING SITUATION OR RELEASE FROM JAIL. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES PROVISION OF SHELTER, BASIC NEEDS (CLOTHING, FOOD AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES) AND INTENSIVE COMMUNITY BASED TREATMENT (THREE PERSON TEAM). IN 2021, SURVIVOR VENTURES PROVIDED 1,460 NIGHTS OF CRISIS SHELTER TO 19 SURVIVORS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS.


HOUSING STABILITY PROGRAM: HSP PROVIDES RENTAL ASSISTANCE FOR TENANT-BASED APARTMENTS THROUGHOUT HAMPTON ROADS. ASSISTS IN LOCATING APARTMENTS, PROVIDES HOUSING ADVOCACY WITH LANDLORDS, FURNISHES EACH SURVIVOR-LED HOME, AND PROVIDES INTENSIVE COMMUNITY BASED TREATMENT (THREE PERSON TEAM). IN 2021 SURVIVOR VENTURES PROVIDED HOUSING STABILITY SERVICES TO 39 SURVIVORS OF TRAFFICKING AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO 25 SURVIVORS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND THEIR DEPENDENTS. 90 PERCENT OF SURVIVORS ACHIEVED HOUSING STABILITY, 35 OUT OF 39 ARE PAYING THEIR OWN RENT AND BILLS.
