COUNTRY OPERATIONS: CIVIC'S MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE PROTECTION FOR CIVILIANS CAUGHT IN CONFLICTS AROUND THE WORLD. WE CALL ON AND ADVISE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, GOVERNMENTS, MILITARIES, AND ARMED NON-STATE ACTORS TO ADOPT AND IMPLEMENT POLICIES TO PREVENT CIVILIAN HARM. WHEN CIVILIANS ARE HARMED WE ADVOCATE FOR THE PROVISION OF AMENDS AND POST-HARM ASSISTANCE. WE BRING THE VOICES OF CIVILIANS THEMSELVES TO THOSE MAKING DECISIONS AFFECTING THEIR LIVES.THE ORGANIZATION WAS FOUNDED IN 2003 TO ADVOCATE FOR RECOGNITION AND ASSISTANCE FOR THE CIVILIAN VICTIMS OF THE IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WARS. MORE THAN A DECADE LATER, CIVI IS A GO-TO SOURCE FOR EFFECTIVE CIVILIAN PROTECTION POLICY AND PRACTICE, AND IS A LEADING VOICE FOR CIVILIANS LIVING IN CONFLICT THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.CIVIC ENCOURAGES PARTIES INVOLVED IN CONFLICT TO ADOPT TOOLS, POLICIES, AND PRACTICES THAT HELP THEM IMPLEMENT THEIR LEGAL OBLIGATIONS AND TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT IS LEGALLY REQUIRED BY IHL, THUS RAISING THE LEVEL OF PROTECTION AFFORDED TO CIVILIANS BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER CONFLICT. WHERE PREVENTION FAILS, HARM MUST BE APPROPRIATELY ADDRESSED THROUGH THE MAKING OF AMENDS OR PROVISION OF POST-HARM ASSISTANCE.
