MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATIONSINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE, BOTH THE SPONSORING INSTITUTION AND THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE ACGME, OUR ACCREDITING ORGANIZATION, OF FULL CONTINUED ACCREDITATION. THIS ACCREDITATION IS EFFECTIVE FOR 10 YEARS. THIS REPRESENTED FORMAL RECOGNITION BY THE ACGME THAT BOTH THE INSTITUTION AND THE PROGRAM ARE COMPLIANT WITH ALL THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ACGME, AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE. WITH THE ONBOARDING OF THE NEWEST GROUP OF RESIDENTS IN JULY 2021, WE FINALLY FILLED THE PROGRAM TO ITS FULLEST COMPLEMENT OF RESIDENTS. WE NOW HAVE RESIDENTS AT ALL FOUR LEVELS OF THE PROGRAM. WE EXPECT TO GRADUATE OUR FIRST CLASS OF RESIDENTS IN JUNE 2022. ALL FOUR RESIDENTS HAVE SECURED JOBS AFTER GRADUATION, WITH TWO RESIDENTS REMAINING IN IOWA (ONE AT UNITYPOINT AND ONE AT THE VA OF CENTRAL IOWA) AND TWO OUT OF STATE. THAT IS A 50% RETENTION RATE CURRENTLY. MOREOVER, THUS FAR, AT LEAST TWO RESIDENTS FROM THE PGY 3 LEVEL CLASS HAVE ACCEPTED JOB OFFERS IN IOWA. THE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO DEVELOP THE CLINICAL TRAINING CURRICULUM FOR THE PROGRAM, ADDING MORE ROTATIONS SPONSORED BY MENTAL FACILITIES IN THE COMMUNITY. SEVERAL ROTATIONS OCCUR WITH STATE AGENCIES, THE VA, STATE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, AND LOCAL/RURAL CLINICAL PRACTICES.WE NOW EMPLOY 16 RESIDENTS, ONE PROGRAM COORDINATOR, ONE PROGRAM DIRECTOR, AND SEVERAL CORE RESIDENCY FACULTY. THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR WAS VERY RECENTLY NAMED A DISTINGUISHED FELLOW OF THE AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION, A SINGULAR HONOR THAT REFLECTS NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR HER CONTRIBUTIONS.
