Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

IN 2023, BUILD UP CONTINUED SUPPORTING DEMOCRATIZATION IN THE SOMALI REGION THROUGH THE PROVISION OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, ACCOMPANIMENT AND MENTORING TO THE TRANSITIONAL PUNTLAND ELECTORAL COMMISSION (TPEC) IN PUNTLAND, SOMALIA. ADDITIONALLY, BUILD UP SUPPORTED PUNSAA, A LOCAL ORGANIZATION LEADING THE LOCAL OBSERVERS OF THE ELECTIONS.


ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE A NUMBER OF OTHER UNIQUE INITIATIVES THAT BUILD UP SUPPORTED, INCLUDING: (I) ARTISTS COMMITTED TO PEACE THROUGH BUILD UP'S DANCING WITH PEACE INITIATIVE; (II) SUPPORT TO URBAN PLANNERS EXILED FROM SYRIA REIMAGINING BEIRUT IN THE ABSENCE OF THE CURRENT CONFLICT; (III) THE INNOVATION OF BUILD UP'S ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE TO ALIGN WITH ITS PEACEBUILDING PRINCIPLES THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF PEACE NEXUS; AND (IV) THE DEVELOPMENT OF BUILD UP'S PHOENIX OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE FOR SOCIAL MEDIA LISTENING FOR PEACEBUILDERS.


BUILD UP CONTINUED ITS COLLABORATION WITH THE BRITISH COUNCIL TO PROVIDE YOUNG MEDIA INNOVATORS IN SYRIA AND YEMEN WITH EFFECTIVE TOOLS, SKILLS, AND MENTORING TO CREATE THEIR OWN TECH OR DIGITAL MEDIA INITIATIVES THAT RESPOND TO LOCAL COMMUNITY NEEDS AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR RESILIENCE. IN 2022, 400 YOUNG AND EMERGING ACTORS, JOURNALISTS, AND CONTENT CREATORS BEGAN TO RECEIVE TRAINING AND DESIGN SUPPORT. IN 2023, TEAMS WILL BE SELECTED FOR CONTINUED BUILD UP MENTORSHIP AND GUIDANCE THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION. CELEBRATION OF PEACE INNOVATION AT BUILD UP'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE: BUILD PEACE 2023
