CORE GRANTS FUND: THE HONNOLD FOUNDATION PROVIDES UNRESTRICTED MULTI-YEAR GRANTS FOR GRASSROOTS NONPROFITS DOING SOLAR ENERGY ACCESS WORK WORLDWIDE. IN 2022, THE HONNOLD FOUNDATION CORE FUND SOLICITED APPLICATIONS FROM SOLAR NONPROFITS AND INITIATIVES ALL OVER THE WORLD. WE RECEIVED NEARLY 800 APPLICATIONS, AND AFTER AN EXCEPTIONALLY COMPETITIVE REVIEW PROCESS, AWARDED GRANTS TO 24 INNOVATIVE, COMMUNITY-DRIVEN SOLAR INITIATIVES IN 16 COUNTRIES. NOTE THAT FOR TWO OF THE COUNTRIES, THE FUNDS WERE GIVEN TO AN ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE U.S. FOR WORK DONE OUTSIDE THE U.S.


COMMUNITY GRANTS FUND: THROUGH THE COMMUNITY FUND, HF PROVIDES SOLAR INSTALLATIONS FOR BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND PEOPLE OF COLOR-LED NONPROFITS IN THE MOST POLLUTED REGIONS IN THE UNITES STATES. COMMUNITY FUND GRANTS ARE MISSION AGNOSTIC-IF THE NONPROFIT IS MEETING ESSENTIAL NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY (FROM ARTS EDUCATION TO FOOD SECURITY SERVICES), IT'S ELIGIBLE FOR A SOLAR INSTALL FROM THE COMMUNITY FUND. THIS FUND OPERATES WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE, AND SUPPORTED PARTNERS IN VIRGINIA IN 2022.


MICROGRID PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM DESIGNS AND IMPLEMENTS COOPERATIVELY- MANAGED, LOCALLY OWNED SOLAR MICROGRIDS SERVING COMMUNITIES ESPECIALLY IMPACTED BY THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE. THE HONNOLD FOUNDATION'S MICROGRID PROGRAM IS A FLAGSHIP INITIATIVE THAT DEVELOPS COMMUNITY-OWNED SOLAR MICROGRIDS IN PLACES ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE. OUR INAUGURAL PROJECT IS THE ADJUNTAS MICROGRID, A 187 KW PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM POWERING 13 BUSINESSES IN A SMALL TOWN IN PUERTO RICO. IN 2022, WE FINALIZED ALL SOLAR INSTALLATIONS AND BEGAN PREPARATIONS FOR BATTERY STORAGE FINALIZATION IN 2023.


LEVINE IMPACT LAB: IN 2022, THE HONNOLD FOUNDATION PLANNED AND LAUNCHED THE LEVINE IMPACT LAB. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES 3 YEARS OF NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING SUPPORT TO GRASSROOTS ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE NON-PROFITS. ADDITIONALLY, EACH YEAR, ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS PROGRAM WILL RECEIVE FINANCIAL SUPPORT THROUGH AN ANNUAL GRANT. THE PROGRAM PLANNING PHASE TOOK PLACE IN 2022, AND THE START OF PROGRAM ACTIVITIES WILL OCCUR IN 2023. NEW NON-PROFIT LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS WILL BE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN THIS PROGRAM EVERY YEAR.
