THE AMERICAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE SOUTH CAUCASUS (ARISC) ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS SCHOLARLY STUDY OF THE SOUTH CAUCASUS STATES (ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN, AND GEORGIA) ACROSS ALL DISCIPLINES OF THE HUMANITIES, SCIENCES, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES. ARISC'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND ENCOURAGE AMERICAN RESEARCH IN THE REGION AND TO FOSTER INTELLECTUAL INQUIRY ACROSS BOUNDARIES WITHIN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS AS WELL AS BETWEEN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS AND ITS NEIGHBORS.

IN 2022-23, ARISC RAN EIGHT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES, AWARDING THIRTEEN FELLOWS TO CONDUCT RESEARCH PROJECTS IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS AND FIVE SOUTH CAUCASUS SCHOLARS TO TRAVEL TO THE US TO PRESENT THEIR RESEARCH AT CONFERENCES. ARISC ALSO CONDUCTED A TEN-DAY INTENSIVE PROGRAM IN ARMENIA AND GEORGIA FOR SEVEN US EDUCATORS TO LEARN HOW TO INCORPORATE THE SOUTH CAUCASUS INTO THEIR TEACHING. THE REMAINING THREE FELLOWSHIPS THAT WERE ON HOLD DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS GLOBAL PANDEMIC WERE COMPLETED THIS YEAR. ARISC CO-SPONSORED A PANEL AND A ROUNDTABLE AT THE ASSOCIATION FOR SLAVIC, EAST EUROPEAN, AND EURASIAN STUDIES ANNUAL CONVENTION. ARISC HAS RECEIVED AND RESPONDED TO 183 REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE BY SCHOLARS WITH THE LOGISTICS OF THEIR RESEARCH. FIFTY VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON LECTURES AND EVENTS HAVE BEEN ORGANIZED OR CO-ORGANIZED IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS. ARISC COORDINATED AN INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP ON GIS FOR SCHOLARS IN TBILISI, TWO VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS ON GRANT WRITING, AND ONE VIRTUAL PANEL ON PROFESSIONALISM AND ACADEMIC PLACEMENT. ARISC HAS A BRANCH IN ARMENIA AND IN GEORGIA AND A REPRESENTATIVE IN AZERBAIJAN. OUR REPRESENTATIVES ABROAD HAVE COLLECTED INFORMATION ON LANGUAGE LEARNING PROGRAMS, ARCHIVES AND MUSEUMS, AND LISTS OF SCHOLARS IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN BUILDING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS.
