CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR MEMBERS: IN 2021, 96 NORTH IDAHO CONFERENCE ATTENDEES EARNED UP TO 6 HOURS OF CE EACH. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, OUR 2021 ANNUAL SESSION WAS SHORTENED TO A SINGLE DAY EVENT. 314 ANNUAL SESSION ATTENDEES EARNED UP TO 6 HOURS OF CE THROUGH BOTH IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE AND ONLINE. WE SUPPORTED OUR 7 COMPONENT SOCIETIES IN DELIVERING ONLINE AND HYBRID CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINARS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
ADVOCACY: DURING 2021, THE ISDA ADVOCATED FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CLEAR LAWS AND RULES TO SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF TELEHEALTH TECHNOLOGIES IN DENTISTRY, CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT OF THE DENTAL PROGRAM IN MEDICAID, AND APPROPRIATE PAYMENT METHODS FROM DENTAL PLANS TO PROVIDERS. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PROVIDED CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR REFINANCING OPTIONS FOR STUDENT LOANS TO ADDRESS THE HIGH COSTS OF DENTAL EDUCATION, AND EFFORTS TO ENSURE A FAIR PLAYING FIELD BETWEEN DENTISTS AND THIRD-PARTY PAYERS.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, OTHER VOLUNTEER EVENTS FOR 2021 WERE LIMITED. THE ISDA SUPPORTED THE GIVE KIDS A SMILE CHARITABLE EVENT WHICH PROVIDED 392 UNINSURED CHILDREN WITH $121,400 IN DONATED DENTAL CARE. THE ISDA CONTINUED MONTHLY TV SEGMENTS IN THE LARGEST IDAHO MARKET EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE IMPORTANCE OF ORAL HEALTH CARE AND HIGHLIGHTING SAFETY PROTOCOLS DESIGNED TO PROTECT BOTH PATIENTS AND PRACTITIONERS FROM THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, ENCOURAGING THE PUBLIC TO CONTINUE TO SEE THEIR DENTIST. THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES A SUSTAINED SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE TO INCREASE CONNECTION WITH COMMUNITY AND PROVIDES RELEVANT ORAL HEALTH CARE TOPICS, WITH AN AVERAGE REACH OF 1,200 PER MONTH.
