TO PURSUE ECONOMIC PROSPERITY AND GROWTH FOR SANGAMON COUNTY AND THE CITY OF SPRINGFIELD BY CREATING A FINANCIALLY SOUND COMMUNITY ABLE TO ATTRACT NEW BUSINESSES AND SKILLED TALENT, WHILE RETAINING THE PROFITABLE COMPANIES AND LOCAL WORKFORCE WHO ALREADY MAKE SANGAMON COUNTY THEIR HOME.

LLEDC BEGAN A BUSINESS RETENTION AND EXPANSION (BRE) PROGRAM. THIS INVOLVES MEETING WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF BUSINESSES IN THE COMMUNITY TO DETERMINE IF THEY ARE AT RISK OF CLOSING/LEAVING. IF THAT RISK EXISTS, THEN LLEDC WORKS TO CURE ANY ISSUES THAT ARE IDENTIFITED BY THE BUSINESS. AT THE BRE MEETINGS, LLEDC STAFF ALSO WORKS TO ENCOURAGE BUSINESSES TO EXPAND AND CONNECT THEM TO RESOURCES TO ASSIST THEM. THE COMMUNITY MARKETING CAMPAIGN CONTINUES TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH OVER 6 MILLION VIEWS OF THE DIGITAL MARKETING EFFORTS. WORKERS IN THE COMMUNITY REMAIN ACTIVE WITH THE METRO AREA SURPASSING ITS PRE-PANDEMIC EMPLOYMENT LEVELS AND AVERAGE WAGES ALSO SHOWING SIGNIFICANT INCREASES. MAJOR ENERGY DEVELOPMENTS ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE $800 MILLION DOUBLE BLACK DIAMOND SOLAR DEVELOPMENT BREAKING GROUND IN 2022. ALSO, THE LINCOLN LAND ENERGY CENTER RECEIVED APPROVAL FOR ITS $1 BILLION NATURAL GAS FIRED POWER PLANT NEAR PAWNEE.
