HSD ELEVATING OUR AT-PROMISE YOUTH WORKED WITH ELDERS IN THE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY TO DEVELOP A CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE MEDIATION APPROACH TO ADDRESS ISSUES REGARDING THE DISPROPORTIONATE RATES OF INCARCERATION OF YOUTH OF COLOR AND TO INTERRUPT THE SCHOOL-TO-PRISON PIPELINE. OUR ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH LOCAL CBO'S, FAITH-BASED GROUPS, AND ORGANIZERS TO ALSO BRING AWARENESSS REGARDING THE STRUGGLE THAT IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE YOUTH FACE IN AMERICA. BCG'S WORK UTILIZES AND HONORS TRADTIONAL AFRICAN PRACTICES THAT PROMOTE PEACE, HEALING AND EVALUATING YOUNG LEADERS IN THE COMMUNITY.
CULTURAL RESTORATION OF THE HEARTS AND MINDS (CHRM) CHRM IS THE CULTURAL RESTORATION OF THE HEARTS AND MINDS PROGRAM AT FOSTER HIGH SCHOOL. CULTURAL COMMUNICATION HAS A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON SCHOOL ENAGEMENT AND PARTICAPATION. BCG ADDRESSED ISSUES AROUND CULTURAL DIMENSIONS TO SOLVE CONFLICTS THAT RISE DUE TO CULTURAL VALUES AND DESIGNATIONS. BCG EMPOWERS YOUTH AND FAMILIES TO BUILD LISTENING TO LEARN SKILLS BY CREATING OPPORTUNITIES TO FOSTER AND SHARE RESPONSBILITY TO CARE AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER.
KCEN RESEARCH PARTICIPATED AND COMPLETED A COMMUNITY LED RESEARCH AROUND INVEST AND DIVEST. AS A COMMUNITY OF IMMIGRANTS, WE DEMANDED INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND SAFETY FOR OUR REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT PEOPLE, INSTEAD OF INVESTMENT IN CRIMINALIZING CAGING, AND HARMING OF BLACK AND BROWN PEOPLE.
