THE AFLAC CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION, INC. WHICH SEEKS TO ADVANCE THE CHILDHOOD CANCER CAUSE BY BUILDING ISSUE AWARENESS AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT, GENERATING SIGNIFICANT NEW FUNDING, AND DELIVERING COMFORT AND SUPPORT TO PATIENTS.

MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCKDURING CALENDAR YEAR 2021, THE AFLAC CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTED 2,007 MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCKS TO 330+ PEDIATRIC CANCER HOSPITALS AND PEDIATRIC CANCER CAMPS THROUGHOUT 49 STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND PUERTO RICO. THE DUCKS WERE GIVEN TO PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS RECEIVING TREATMENT AND SERVICES AT THE HOSPITALS AND CAMPS. MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCK IS A SOCIAL ROBOT SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE PSYCHO-SOCIAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER, INCLUDING COMFORT, PLAY AND DISTRACTION FEATURES, MEDICAL PLAY, AND AS A TOOL THROUGH WHICH CHILDREN CAN MORE EASILY COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR HEALTHCARE TEAM AND FAMILY. IN 2021, ACCESSORIES TO HELP SIMULATE 'MEDICAL PLAY' WERE ADDED TO MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCKS DISTRIBUTED TO CHILDREN WITH CANCER. WITH THIS ADDITION, THE COST OF THE DUCKS INCREASED TO $165.ALSO IN 2021, AFLAC DONATED 157 CHILD LIFE SPECIALIST COMPANION KITS COSTING $250 EACH. THE KITS ARE USED BY CHILD LIFE PROFESSIONALS WHEN WORKING WITH THEIR PATIENTS WITH CANCER TO HELP ALLEVIATE ANXIETY AND EDUCATE THEM ABOUT THEIR CARE AND PROCEDURES THEY MAY ENCOUNTER. IN ADDITION TO A MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCK, THE KITS INCLUDED THE NEW MEDICAL ACCESSORIES AND A SPECIAL CARRYING CASE RESEMBLING AN MRI MACHINE THAT CHILD LIFE PROFESSIONALS COULD USE TO HELP TEACH PATIENTS ABOUT THE MRI PROCESS.
HOLIDAY DUCK/AFLAC CHILDHOOD CANCER CAMPAIGN MERCHANDISETHIS DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS WAS PREVIOUSLY UNDER MANAGEMENT OF THE AFLAC FOUNDATION INC. AND WAS MOVED UNDER THE AFLAC CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION INC. IN 2021.ANNUAL HOLIDAY DUCKS AND MERCHANDISE (T-SHIRTS, HATS, ETC) ARE SOLD INTERNALLY ON DUCKGEAR AND EXTERNALLY ON AFLACCHILDHOODCANCER.ORG. NET PROCEEDS OF THOSE SALES ARE DISTRIBUTED TO PARTICIPATING HOSPITALS THAT TREAT PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS. THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COORDINATES DISTRIBUTION OF THIS FUNDING TO THE 53 HOSPITALS (IN 2021) RECEIVING PROCEEDS.
CHILD LIFE & PEDIATRIC CANCER GRANTSIN SUPPORT OF CHILD LIFE SPECIALISTS AND THEIR WORK WITH PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR SIBLINGS, INCLUDING UTILIZATION OF MY SPECIAL AFLAC DUCK IN PATIENT PSYCHO-SOCIAL CARE THE AFLAC CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION AWARDED 16 CHILD LIFE & PEDIATRIC CANCER GRANTS TO CHILD LIFE PROGRAMS AT HOSPITALS AROUND THE UNITED STATES. EACH RECIPIENT WAS AWARDED $2,500 TO BE USED FOR THEIR CHILD LIFE PROGRAM AND WORK WITH THESE PATIENTS AND/OR THEIR SIBLINGS. FIRST AWARDED IN 2019, A TOTAL OF 36 GRANTS HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO DATE.
